This takes place at the SSCBA clubs that meet on Mondays if they so choose. Contact Jeff Jones or John Withers is you wish your club to take part in this.
This day time event takes place at Wolverhampton Bridge Club with a light lunch included. It is aimed at less experienced players who may be partnered by a more experienced player.
The winners of this event go on to play in the national event for the Corwen Trophy on 30th and 31st May 2020.

Some wonderful tips on bidding, declarer play and defence enjoyed by virtually a full house. Missed was the lunch interval supplied by Kath and her team on the last occasion! Many thanks must go to those that provided and set up the tables, bidding boxes and table covers etc who had a very early start. Huge thanks to Kath for organising the day, a great success.
Staffs and Shrops finished 5th of 9 in group D of this national event played in Daventry over the weekend 16th/17th November. SSCBA had 4 wins & 4 defeats. Wins against:

Congratulations to Kevin Goode and Peter Cartwright, and Helen and Peter Lees, who finished second and third in the Edgar Foster Cups on Sunday 22nd September 2019. Sadly, it wasn't quite enough to bring home the trophy, which was lost on a tie-break to Warwickshire. Full results can be seen here. .
Lessons usually start in September. Courses are being run at Newcastle, Oswestry, Shrewsbury Improvers, Stafford, Wolverhampton and Wrekin. Newcastle reports a thriving beginners class. Stafford has an equally popular intermediate class. Click the link here for more details.

The Laws of Duplicate Bridge 2017 is available for purchase. These were introduced at EBU events from the start of August 2017 to coincide with the annual updates to the Blue Book and White Book.

Subject to obtaining an EBU licence clubs are entitled to hold 2 blue pointed events per year, 3 blue points are equivalent to 1 green point.
Welcome to Staffordshire and Shropshire Contract Bridge Association (S&SCBA). The area covered by the Association ranges from the Welsh border in the West to Burton on Trent in the East, Newcastle under Lyme in the North to Ludlow in the South. Our objectives are to promote duplicate bridge in the counties, to encourage inter-club, etc., competitions and to employ the funds in the best interests of the game.
The County has teams of eight entered in the Midland League (Dawes, Porter and Markham) and annually enters a team in the EBU Tollemache competition. The Midlands league covers Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire in addition to ourselves. The County also participates in the Edgar Foster Cups and Midland Teams Challenge Bowl, events for the six counties of Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and ourselves.
During the winter months teams of four league matches for County members are held on the second Wednesday of the month, and there is also a team of four knock-out competition. Inter Club Sim Pairs are run regularly, and, various pairs competition events are held annually.
County clubs affiliated to the EBU are Border, Chasetown, Eccleshall, Nantwich, Newcastle, Newport, Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Stafford, Tettenhall, Wolverhampton and Wrekin. Wolverhampton Bridge Club became the playing headquarters of S&SCBA in December 2013.
SSCBA members Paul Hackett and Dave Debbage were in the team that ended the season at the top of the EBU Premier League, the final round played 9th/10th November 2019 at The West Midlands Bridge Club.

Paul Hackett was a member of the Brian Senior winning team in the Gerard Faulkner knock out competition, the final for the 2018/19 competition being played in September 2019 just as the competition for the next year was getting underway!
Several County members were in the team that came second, Diego Brenner, Jason, Justin and Paul joined by David Mossop and Alex Hydes. Dan Croft’s team also got to the final
Jason Hackett came second in the Mutton Cup Individual Competition played in Madrid on 24th August. Several SSCBA members took part.
Another Hackett family success story. Jason, Justin, David Mossop and Paul have won the Brighton teams played on 11th August 2019. The home of the congress is now at Eastbourne but the name lives on! Congratulations all in the team.

The charity English Bridge Education & Development (EBED), set up in 2014, now manages educational programmes and support for teachers, and also provides Tournament Director training for Clubs and Counties. Please check their web site for information on TD and Club Teacher training courses.
