Some items of general interest from around the clubs. Click link for the listing of local events of interest.

Basford Bridge Club - Barkins Plate

The Barkins Plate, a handicapped pairs event, was played on 24th March 2014. Held annually in the spring in memory of Jim Barlow and Joe Perkins, who donated the plate in 1985, for their long standing membership to the club.

16 pairs entered, with 32 boards being played. Won by Tracy and Martin Aherne (3 years with the club) beating second placed Dorothy Bonsall and Jenny Wood, last years winners, by 0.75%.

See mention of the trophy back in 1986 and, just underneath that item of Basford news, the fact the County Association was first formed in 1946.

Newcastle Bridge Club - Fun event on October 26th

A very successful afternoon event starting with a light lunch, including delicious cucumber sandwiches, followed by relaxing bridge was held at the club on Saturday 26th October.  Homemade cakes with English tea mid way through the session made it a perfect afternoon.  Players from all sessions of the club were represented among the 12 tables. A beginners table was well supported and welcomed to the event. Loads of positive feedback so a repeat can be expected!

The next heat for the handicap teams is on Friday 1st of November.

Newport Bridge Club - Success Stories

Newport Bridge Club can now boast several new Tournament Directors following the course run by James Vickers at Wolverhampton Bridge Club. Annette qualified with a distinction.

In the recent EBU Autumn Sim Pairs on September 10th Geoff and Robin came 2nd overall out of 1000 pairs from 62 clubs.

Oswestry Bridge Club - Exam success

Congratulations to Pat Ramsay on passing her Directors' exam this month - brilliant!

Stafford Bridge Club - News

Stafford members enjoyed a bridge playing weekend break at Lytham St Anne's in April. It was so successful that a similar break is planned next April.

Stafford hosted a Gold Cup tie in June between Steve Green's team and Brian Irlam's team. Unfortunate timing as it coincided with a home Dawes match so that the Dawes match was played at Wolverhampton.  See if you can spot the one time Staffordshire player in the winning Gold Cup team, show the webmaster you read this page!

Tettenhall Bridge Club - EBU visit

Andrew Urbanski, from the EBU, visited Tettenhall bridge club on Wednesday afternoon 13th November.

Wolverhampton Bridge Club - News

Wolverhampton is to become the new County Headquarters from December 1st 2013.

Following the TD training course at the club 7 new directors are now qualified, 2 with distinction.

Shrewsbury Bridge Club Celebration

Shrewsbury Bridge Club was founded on 15th July 1954.  The 60th anniversay of the founding was celebrated with a dinner a few days ahead of the actual date on July 1st.
