New to the Oxford Bridge Club

I am delighted that you are thinking of playing bridge at the Oxford Bridge Club. All standards of player are very welcome to join our friendly community.

Bridge is the ultimate in card games and one that most players never tire of: highly entertaining and with the constant opportunity to improve/develop your game. It is a mind sport that will help fine-tune the brain and its cognitive skills just as physical exercise helps the body and muscle function. The social aspect of the game brings you into contact with people from all walks of life and is a great way of meeting new people.

Oxford Bridge Club is fortunate to have splendid premises 147, Banbury Road, OX2 7AN which are both comfortable and spacious near Summertown with street parking or the Summertown car parks nearby. Tea and coffee are always on the go during bridge sessions and the bar is open in the evenings.

Due to the COVID pandemic, Oxford Bridge Club started online bridge sessions and these remain an option: the online RealBridge platform allows you to see the players at your virtual table and talk to them as normal. It is very easy to set up and you just click on the link that comes to your email once you have signed up to play at an online session.

Whether you prefer to play online or face-to-face at the club, there are a variety of sessions and times to choose from- please see the links below.

If you already know how to play bridge, you are welcome to come to any session as a guest initially while you decide if you would like to join. You do not need a partner as there is usually a host (but please see below). When you become a member, you can use our club membership platform to find partners for games.

If you want to learn the game or need to brush up on how to play, please see below as there are lots of opportunities.

There is lots of information here on our website - www.oxfordbridgeclub.com. For more information about our programme either click the Calendar tab on the website for the dates of games or the Bridge Programme tab for general information about the types and levels of games available. The programme includes Club Duplicate (pairs) games, Teams sessions, and relaxed Gentle Duplicate games as well as supervised Learn and Play games for those beginning to play duplicate bridge. We also run a fun Speedball session on the first Friday evening of every month at the club.

Bridge is a partnership game, but lack of a partner is no barrier to playing at OBC. Our sessions are usually hosted so you will get a game even if you do not have a partner, but please check the calendar to ensure a host is available as just occasionally a host drops out. Our team can also help you to find a regular partner and, who knows, this may be the start of an enduring and successful new bridge partnership. Contact our Partner Finder sue.burge@ndm.ox.ac.uk for more information.

Finally, we run a great Education programme that caters for players of all standards- click on the Education and Courses tab for more information.

If you would like to apply for membership of the club you can find the joining form here

Please do come and join us. If you would like more information, do not hesitate to contact me – chair@oxfordbridgeclub.com
