On Sunday 15th March 2020 Oxford Bridge Club and Oxford Junior Bridge Club are running a joint Simultaneous Pairs event, from 2.00-5.00pm, at Oxford Bridge Club.
This gentle competition is organised by EBED (English Bridge Education and Development) and is open to anyone who is learning or taking part in an organised teaching scheme. There is no master point or NGS rank limit, but entrants are expected to be bona fide learners, including of course juniors. This means that students in years 1 and 2 of the Bridge for All course and Oxford Junior Bridge Club members are eligible to take part. Students and juniors from other clubs are also very welcome to join us. If you aren't sure of your eligibility, please contact us to check.
The Oxford Times trophy for 2020 will be awarded to the highest placed pair competing at a heat of this event organised by a club that is affiliated to the Oxfordshire Bridge Association.
For those who haven't come across the term before, a simultaneous pairs event (frequently abbreviated to sim pairs, or sims) is one where clubs all over the country play the same set of hands, normally on the same day. The results from all the clubs are combined into one set, which means that you can enjoy comparing your results with those of hundreds of other players. The EBED Student and Schools sims are slightly different in that heats may be played at any time during February and March. For this reason you are asked to make sure that you don't play in this event more than once, as it would mean that you'd be playing a set of hands that you'd seen before.
Don't be timid! Don't be shy! This is a wonderful opportunity to participate in a gentle competitive and fun event, playing with and against other novices and juniors. At the end of play you will receive a booklet that includes expert commentary on all of the hands.
A modest entry fee of £5.00 will be charged on the day and this will cover a delicious tea to be served at the end.
Please enter in advance using the entry form below so that we have an idea of numbers for the tea. We are taking entries from everyone as individuals, but you are welcome to come along and play with a specific partner. If you don't have a pre-arranged partner, you'll be matched up either with another player who doesn't have a partner, or with a host. If you play with a host you may still compete in the EBED Student and Schools Simultaneous Pairs event, but only pairs of students are eligible to win the Oxford Times trophy.
