Teach with Bridge For Pleasure Free Scheme

 

This scheme is available for you to use completely free.

It was originally developed for face to face teaching, but much of it is now adapted for either face to face or teaching online.

 

There are more than sixty lessons grouped into three courses, Bridge 1, Bridge 2 and Bridge 3 and

Advanced Lessons divided into three groups, Advanced Auctions (Uncontested), Advanced Competitive Auctions, and Advanced Card Play.

 

There are hundreds of PDF documents available for download here. All PDF's can be downloaded by "right-clicking" on the document name and selecting "down load link as".

 

There are sets of hands associated with most lessons. Many are available as PBN for your download. You can request email of any of these deals in LIN format.

Bridge For Pleasure - The Materials

 

There are some or all of the following for each lesson:

 

PLAN 

A PDF containing ideas on the scope of the lesson and methods and resources for delivering it. Intended to help you plan your lesson. 

 

IMAGE/POSTER

A graphic summary of the lesson, reduced to a few simple points.

IMAGE is a jpg version that can be loaded to your website, shared during online lessons or used in your follow up emails after the lesson. You can download any of the summary pictures by by "right-clicking" on the picture and selecting "down load link as".

POSTER is a PDF version of the same summary that you can use to print paper/card posters to talk to, or display at F2F lessons.

 

NOTES

A PDF containing notes on the lesson. Intended for you to distribute to your learners before, during or after the lesson. You can send it by email, or print copies to hand out.

 

GLOSSARY

A PDF containing definitions of bridge terms introduced during the lesson. Provided in early lessons where a lot of new terms are introduced. Intended for you to distribute to your learners before, during or after the lesson. You can send it by email, or print copies to hand out.

 

DEAL/HAND RECORD

A PDF containing details of a set of hands themed to the lesson. This can be used if you are preparing for lessons by sorting cards by hand. It is also a record of the details of the hands you might use during practice by your learners.

 

COMMENTARY

A PDF containing details of a set of hands themed to the lesson AND notes on how they might be played and the learning points in each hand. It is a record of the details of the hands you might use during practice by your learners. If you are working with helpers who are supporting tables of learners, this document is to help them help the learners, so you could give each one a copy. If you have time, it is a good document to talk through the learning points with them ahead of the lesson.

 

PBN File

A file containing details of the set of hands themed to the lesson. This file can be loaded to RealBridge for lessons/practice. It can be converted to a LIN format which can be loaded to BBO for lessons/practice. It can used as input to most dealing machines.

 

QUIZ

A PDF containing questions on the lesson. Intended for you to distribute to your learners before, during or after the lesson. You can send it by email, or print copies to hand out. You can go through it as part of the original lesson. You can send it out after the lesson and go through it at the start of the next lesson. This is great way of reinforcing the lesson and checking on understanding and clearing up outstanding questions/points.

 

QUIZ ANSWERS

A PDF containing questions on the lesson with answers. Intended for you to distribute to your learners during or after the lesson. You can send it by email, or print copies to hand out. This is great way of reinforcing the lesson and checking on understanding and clearing up outstanding questions/points.

 

FOLLOW UP

A WORD document. A document with test, summary image, and prompts for you to attach notes, glossaries, quiz, previous quiz answers, exercises on No Fear Bridge and give the where and when for next lessons, payment. Intended for you to EDIT and distribute to your learners after the lesson. You can use it to create emails, or print copies to hand out.  Click on the document and it will download.

Bridge For Pleasure Teaching Scheme

This scheme was developed for teaching duplicate bridge face to face in a class/bridge room.
However, it is being adapted for use online.

The courses start from bridge for complete beginners right through to learning complex bidding methods and card play.

The materials are free to use, largely in PDF documents available for download here.

There are six courses of ten lessons.

It's particularly aimed at volunteer bridge teachers, perhaps not the strongest players, teaching small groups.
But anyone is welcome to use it. 

Bridge 1 Getting Started, Bridge 2 Building Your Skills and Bridge 3 Taking Acol Further are all loaded.

Advanced Lessons are being updated, checked, used and loaded.

Where there is a deal shown in the lesson files, use the form below to request the deal file in DLM, PBN or LIN format.

The goal of Bridge 1 is to prepare learners for gentle simple, supervised play.

Hand Evaluation, Card play in Trumps and No Trumps,
Opening Acol weak 1NT (not with 5 card major), responding with balanced hands, responding with unbalanced hand.
Opening 1 of a suit, limit raises, opener's re-bids with one suited, two suited, and balanced hands.

Most Lesson Plans have hints on teaching either face to face OR online.
Online teaching includes detailed suggestions for materials on www.nofearbridge.co.uk, an excellent bridge learning and teaching site.
