Heritage Hills club has lost a number of players since 2023, most recently Joanne Jantos and Amy Botto. Click here for information about other HHDBC members who have died in the past five years.

A memorial service for well-known NY area bridge player Julian Laderman took place on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023 at Lehman College in the Bronx.

Brill makes Grand Master
Brill makes Grand Master

"It's exciting," said Laura Brill, on winning the Senior Mixed Pairs with partner Mark Itabashi at the Spring NABC Tournament in Memphis in March 2025, an accomplishment that also promoted her to Grand Life Master in ACBL rankings.

She said grabbing a national title was a goal of hers for a long time, and picking up the win made up for disappointment in coming second by a tiny margin in the past. Brill added that she's proud she's come so far sticking with playing a game -- for 46 years! -- that doesn't come naturally to her as a writer and a poet. She said she learned from some of the best, in particular her long time partner and "fabulous bridge player" Rick Goldstein, who died three years ago.

Brill was a co-owner of the Bridge Deck in the 1990s and still occasionally plays at the club, but she said these days she plays bridge mostly online.

Region 3

We are now a part of ACBL's Region 3, made up of Districts 3 and 4.
