Welcome to St. Therese's
Ronnie O'Regan RIP

We have learned with great regret of the passing of our dear friend Ronnie O’Regan in the early hours of Wednesday 8th July.  He had been ill for some time but played bridge online recently.

When Ronnie retired from UCD as the Dean of Medicine 15 years ago he took up bridge and played regularly with Brendan Gallagher.  He loved the club, as it was a social and friendly place to play.  He made many friends there and enjoyed the friendly banter at the bridge table and at the tea break.  Bridge was a big thing in his life; he was a good player, he made the odd mistake but it was not the end of the world.  He will be sadly missed by all his friends in the bridge club.

We extend heartfelt, sincere sympathy to Deirdre and family and to Brendan his friend and regular bridge partner.  A private funeral will take place on Saturday 11th July.  May Ronnie rest in peace.

Update from committee

Due to the ongoing Covid crisis, the club remains closed and our AGM, scheduled for 27th May, has been postponed indefinitely.  It is hoped to hold the AGM soon after the club re-opens.  Nominations for the committee and officers may be sent to the club secretary, Kay O’Connor

Your committee held a (socially distanced) meeting on 20th June to wind up the business of the year and finalise the club’s accounts.  At this stage it isn’t possible to plan for the future of the club but we want to assure members that we will be getting back to bridge as soon as it is safe to do so.  The CBAI are busy planning and liaising with HSE, and we will be guided by them when the time comes to open up again.  We will keep you informed

The club president and committee are keeping in touch with as many members as we can.  If you haven’t heard from us, it is because we haven’t got your contact details, so please do get in touch with one of the committee.   Our “virtual” club on BBO is being managed very successfully by our occasional TD, Bernie Rountree.  We extend grateful thanks to Bernie for organising this for us

If you are already playing you will know that it is not confined to St Therese’s but we are keeping it “private”, which means that only players who are registered with us may join.  If you haven’t already tried it, we’d encourage you to do so – it’s a little tricky at first but you will soon get used to it.  If you’re having trouble getting set up, please contact me (Fedelma) and I may be able to help

In the meantime, keep well everyone and all best wishes from your committee
