The new Essex Leagues season will begin on 1st October, and the entry form is available on the ECBA website. Essex Contract Bridge Association, Essex  The closing date will be Thursday 17th September. We had a very successful season last year, and I hope we will have another enjoyable one this time.

I have a number of people who would like to participate but who, at the moment, are without another pair and/or partner. If your team is going to be in need of another player or two, please contact me and I will see if I can discreetly find someone suitable.

I acted as matchmaker last year for a number of new teams and partnerships, and I can be trusted to be both tactful and thoughtful with any suggestions. Remember, you only need to register a team of four players to begin with, but you can then use as many substitutes as you like (as long as they are vetted by me) throughout the season. This increased flexibility worked well last year, with only a very small number of matches having to be forfeited.

There will be one change to the Regulations this year. If a match has to be cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, both teams should split any costs incurred 50:50.
