Shadwell Shield 2020 – Competition Rules

1. The competition shall still be called the Shadwell Shield.
2. The competition will be played from 19th June 2020 until either the 1st Dec 2020, the re-commencement of face to face bridge or when BBO grant virtual club permissions to Shadwell Bridge so we can run proper on-line duplicate bridge, which ever comes first.
3. There will be one round of matches each week.
4. Matches will be arranged so that each pair plays each other pair an equal number of times or as close as is possible. No two pairs will play each other more than 2 times.

5. The competition will be handicapped. Handicaps will be based on results from previous SBC on-line BBO sessions. Where players have played a limited number of times, appropriate adjustments will be made by the SBC Committee.

6. Each match will be played on BBO and imps scores recorded for the first 18 boards played.
6. For each match, Imps scores will be converted to Shadwell Victory Points (SVPs) according to the following table and adjusted by adding 1/2 the handicap difference to the weaker of the two pairs and subtracting 1/2 the handicap difference to the stronger of the two pairs.

7. To qualify, players must play at least 8 times, with any number of partners.
8. The winner is the player or players who have the best average SVPs per game on the completion of the competition.
9. In the event of a tie, the 2020 Shadwell Shield will be shared.
10. In the event of any dispute regarding the competition the decision of the SBO Committee will be final.
