John Chamberlain |
Sadly, we report the news that John Chamberlain died on Friday. He was one of Reading Bridge Club’s members with the longest unbroken membership and one who had aways been very supportive of the club.
John, who retired as a partner in a local firm of Chartered Accountants, was an enthusiastic sportsman who had played hockey across the world for the English Seniors.
Bowls came afterwards and he was still playing last year.
In between, John would play bridge whenever he could and was still playing last week, even when he could no longer get out of bed!
The funeral will be held at the Sacred Heart Church, Henley at 2pm on Tuesday 6 May and afterwards tea at Phyllis Court, Marlow Road, Henley.

Joyce Baldock |
We are very sad to report that Joyce Baldock was admitted to Basingstoke Hospital at the weekend and passed away a few days later. Joyce was a long standing member of Reading Bridge Club, playing regularly at Jesse Terrace and then online until very recently. The funeral will be held at 2pm on Tuesday 25 February in St John's Church, Hook. The organisers would like to know rough numbers to expect; those who plan to attend please inform Chris Hall (chall0800@gmail.com).
