Agenda
1. Ron reviewed the 2025 year and noted, that aside from the Xmas / New Year period, we only had 44 playing events - out of a possible (about) 100. This was not deemed very satisfactory, especially during the low season when there are no “snowbird”' visitors. He asked for members to consider ways in which we could increase the membership especially among the resident community.
2. Nigel reported on the club's finances. They are in a healthy state with cash held by the treasurer at the end of the year of THB44,941 - with a further THB48,155 being held by Didier Pinet. Nigel advised he had communicated with Didier for the return of those monies several times but Didier flatly refuses and has said that he will only pay for things that the club may need - i.e. new computer / bidding boxes etc. - against a receipt for the purchase(s).
Ron advised that the official yearend for the club is January 31st so next year's accounts will be 13 months.
3. Ron announced that the winner of the Club’s individual championship for 2025 was Kai Henriksen (based on a minimum of 20 events). The Club’s pair champions for 2025 were Gabriel Damitio and Philippe Raoux (based on a minimum of 10 events). Sorry, but no prizes just bragging rights!
4. Ron reminded people that the annual membership fee of THB250 is due and Nigel advised that he will collect these after February 1st, the start of the 2026 financial year. It was reminded that membership allows players to play at events for a fee of THB200 per person per event and allows members to play for free on the designated “free play days” whereas the fee for visitors and non-members is THB250 per person per event.
5. Nominations were invited for official posts of the club. Ron Stern was proposed and seconded for the posts of President and Webmaster, and was duly elected unopposed. Nigel Montagu was proposed and seconded for the posts of Secretay and Treasurer and was duly elected unopposed.
6. Finally, under any other business Salma Lall and Steve Burns advised members that in North America the “stop” card is not used since, although it may warn opponents of an unusual bid, it could also be said to alert one's own partner - definitely not within the laws of the game. After some discussion it was agreed that in the future the “stop” card would not be used by the Phuket Bridge Club.
A vote of thanks to Ron for all his work for the club was entered.
Whereupon the meeting ended
