Peter Jordan Simultaneous Pairs

This heat of the British Winter Simultaneous Pairs is held in memory of Peter Jordan, with a trophy awarded to the national winner. The trophy is donated by Peter's wife Barbara.

This is a Gentle Duplicate session, and the usual restrictions on experienced players apply - ie more experienced players may play provided that their partner has fewer than 5000 masterpoints or an NGS of under 7.

A commentary on the hands written by an expert will be available at the end of the session. Your results for the session will be compared with those in all the other clubs in the country that are playing the same hands ‘simultaneously’. This means that you will have two scores, your local score for the event at OBC (normal masterpoints) and a national score. As the national field is large, if you're in the top 1/3 of players you will receive a relatively large number of additional masterpoints.

Please note that the hands for all simultaneous pairs events, including this one, are not specially selected - they are randomly dealt.

The entry fee is £8.00 per player (£4.00 for those with a concession card).  This event is hosted, so that you can come and along and play even if you don't have a pre-arranged partner.

Note that for security reasons we won't be able to post the results on our website or on Pianola until after 10.00 in the evening.

Peter Jordan

Peter started working for the EBU after he retired from his family business and stayed for the best part of 20 years, not only working in the Tournament Department but also acting as Congress Manager for the Summer Meetings and all of their overseas congresses. As such he was one of the best-known faces of the EBU and was universally liked and respected for his kindness, warmth and efficiency.

Ian Payn, Chair of the EBU said "Peter was the heart and soul of the Tournament Department. It didn't matter who rang up - he knew who they were and most likely what event they wanted to enquire about. His service on the Tournament Committee was invaluable, as he knew more than anyone what made various events work, and what didn't. On retirement he was keenly missed, and we have lost a loyal and dedicated colleague, and a friend."

Peter was a director at OBC, and he and Barbara were both members of the club and played regularly on Friday evenings. Many of us remember him well.

Visitors

Visitors are welcome, but if you haven't played at the club before, please make yourself known to the director and/or scorer when you arrive.
