The sixth series of the Online Teams league is now finished. Click on the links below to see the final league tables.
This is the sixth series of OBC's online teams league, with matches due to be played between May and September (Summer 2021). It's a teams-of-4 competition using Bridge Base Online’s Teams Matches option. Division 1 teams will play 20 boards per match, and Division 2 teams 16 boards per match.
Masterpoints will be awarded, but results don't count towards NGS.
Seventeen teams have entered this series of the competition, and they are organised into two divisions, based on each team's average NGS (as of 26th April 2021) and performance in the previous series.
We are retaining the handicapping system first used in the fifth series. This is based on the average NGS rankings of each team. Handicaps are in IMPs and can be applied in either of these two (equivalent) ways:
- each team in a match adds its handicap to its raw IMP score
- the lower ranked team in each match adds the difference in handicaps to its raw IMP score
Victory points are calculated in the usual way after the handicaps have been applied. For those who are interested, information on our method of calculating handicaps is available lower down this page.
The league starts in the week beginning Monday 10th May, with matches scheduled to be played twice a month. The final play-by date is Friday 24th September.
The recommended time and days for playing matches is Tuesdays at 1.30pm or Thursdays at 10.30pm, though you're free to rearrange matches if you wish, as long as you finish them all by the final play-by date.
Teams usually run a video conferencing session during each match. See below for further information on video conferencing.
Team captains are responsible for uploading results of their matches, via their MyEBU account on the EBU website. See here for instructions. The results should be converted to Victory Points using the appropriate Victory Point conversion scale (see below), not forgetting to include the handicaps. Team captains can also add or remove team members. It's possible to have more than one captain per team - just email us to request an additional player to be marked as captain.

Video Conferencing:
The club's paid-for Zoom account is available for video conferencing during matches. Please email Su Kong Lo to check availability and book your slot.
Alternatively, if you don't have access to a paid-for version of Zoom, you can use the free versions of Zoom or Webex Meetings. These meetings end automatically after 40 or 50 minutes. When this happens it's possible to restart the same meeting again – ask everyone to exit from the old meeting (it may take a few clicks), and then click on the original meeting invitation. There’s no need to reissue the invitations. Some of you may prefer to switch to a different video conferencing app - further information on video conferencing is available on this page.
