Individual Competition

We are running the Individual Competition on Sunday 2nd March at 1pm, at the clubhouse.

This is a sociable event where players enter as individuals and play with a different partner every round. The winner receives the Thomson trophy.

Members of a wide range of abilities are very welcome to take part - the main criterion is that you can play at a pace of 7-8 minutes per board. Non-members are also welcome to play, but are not eligible to win the trophy/competition.

We will play between 24 and 35 boards, with a break at half time for tea and light refreshments. Play finishes between 4.30 and 5.30 pm, depending on the number of tables and number of boards played.

Everyone plays the same basic ACOL system – a standard system card will be provided for you to follow. You may consult the system card during play. Note that other systems are not permitted - including 5-card majors. Click here to view the system card

Individual events do not count towards your NGS grading. Masterpoints are awarded, but at a reduced rate.

Note that it may not be possible to accommodate players who wish to have a stationary seat - most individual movements require all players to switch tables and seats.

Entry fee £10.00 to include tea and light refreshments.

Please email Liza Furnival, the Tournament Secretary if you have any queries.

Entry Form

We have initially allocated 24 places (ie 6 full tables) to this competition. Once those places are filled, additional names go on the waiting list. We will release 4 more places once there are enough people on the waiting list to fill another table.

So although the closing date for entries is nominally Saturday 1st March at 10am, please be aware that we may close it to entries sooner than this as we want to avoid ending up with a fraction of a table. You are advised to book early if you wish to be sure of a place!

Update: now fully booked. However we are looking for a reserve, in case of a last-minute cancellation. If you're willing to be a reserve, please email Liza.
