Covid changed the bridge world and gave rise to a thriving on line bridge community. Personally, I never play on line and never will.
Here in Tenerife we are blessed with dry warm weather almost 365 days a year. At the arona Bridge Club we will therefore almost always be able to play on the sheltered terrace of the new club.
Nevertheless, Covid and influenza are still around and rules may change frequently. To try and offer certainty of bridge playing opportunities in uncertain times – as well as to come up with safe solutions - it would be helpful to know more about personal preferences. A compromise solution can almost always be found. But only if you advise your requirements and concerns.
The list of questions below are simply ones you should ask yourself when reassessing what you personally now want from bridge.
If you are ambivalent and have no strong views either way, no need to answer the questions. But if you have something to say on any of the ideas or topics, please do let me know:
-
What is the ideal length of a session for you: 2 hours, 2.5 or 3 hours?
-
Would you rather play fewer boards to finish within that time limit?
-
How many times a week would you want to play?
-
If you were guaranteed a place, would you play more often?
-
Do you prefer to play with people of similar standard? (who play only conventions you would know and understand)
-
Do you prefer to play in small groups of three to five tables?
-
What would be your preferred starting time for a bridge session?
-
Which days would you prefer to play?
-
Would you play indoors?
-
How much are you prepared to pay for a session (exclusive of refreshments) where all your requirements can be fulfilled?
-
Would you be interested in organised transport home. If so, would you prefer that to be as soon as you finish - or half an hour later so you can stay and chat?
-
Would you attend one hour morning improvement classes over coffee if I arranged them? Primarily to analyse mistakes made at the previous day´s comp
-
Would any of these session times and days interest you:
Sunday 11h00 to 13h00
Monday 10h30 to 13h00
Monday 15h00 to 17h30
Monday 17h30 to 20h00
I am sure many of you will have points to make on other potential issues: Discipline, sit outs, masks, noise and the prebooking requirement to mention just a few. All comments will be treated in confidence.
