Annual General Meeting

We didn't let coronavirus beat us and our AGM was held on Tuesday, 26 January 2021 - on Zoom of course!

Notes from the meeting, together with the Chairman's report, the Treasurer's financial statement for 2020 and the competition report can be found by clicking here.

Annual Subscriptions

We agreed at our AGM that members who had paid their full annual subscriptions in 2020 should pay no further fee for 2021 and that there would be a £5 fee for anyone joining the club at any time this year.

Welcome to the Kingston Seymour Bridge Club - come along and join us!
Back Open for Face-to-Face Play!

Exciting news!  After over a year of closure we have, after doing a risk assessment
and consulting Government and EBU guidelines, decided to reopen the bridge club
for face-to-face play, on Tuesday evenings starting on 7th September.

The sessions will start promptly at 7:00pm, there will be no tea break.  We ask you to read the Club Plan for returning:- Return to Face-to-Face Bridge Guide

Introduction and General Information
Introduction and General Information

Welcome to the website of the

  Kingston Seymour   Bridge Club

We hope you'll find it both interesting and informative.

The club meets in the Village Hall, Kingston Seymour, near Clevedon, where duplicate bridge is played once a week on a Tuesday evening, starting at 7:00pm - although we ask players to arrive by 6:50pm so that the number of tables and movement can be established and play started promptly.

We usually play 24 boards, have a tea and biscuit break half-way through the evening and aim to be packed up and out of the hall by 10:30pm at latest.

We use computer generated hands and BridgeTabs electronic scoring devices.  Results are usually available at the end of the evening and are also published on this website, together with hand records and optimum contract information.

We like to think of ourselves as being a pretty friendly bunch, with an enjoyable evening being as important (and more achievable for most of us!) as topping the table.

Table money is £2.00 for members and £3.00 for guests and visitors, with the tea, coffee and biscuits included at no additional charge.

Visitors and prospective new members are always welcome but we do ask that they contact one of our committee members (whose details are in the 'club information' section) in advance - in order to check we'll have room for them and to enter their details in our electronic scoring system!

We are affiliated to the English Bridge Union (EBU) via the Somerset Contract Bridge Association (SCBA) and as such all of our members are entitled to the benefits of EBU membership as described here.

Master points are awarded for all events except improvers evenings.

New Bridge Training Sessions live at the village Hall!

Kingston Seymour are pleased to announce that we have a series of bridge seminars planned over the next 6 months or so run by Martin Holcombe.

The first is on Monday 6th September at Kingston Seymour village hall at 2pm for a prompt  2.15pm start. Further dates shown below and Cost £3 per session.

" Martin Holcombe Presents"

The vast majority of Kingston Seymour players will know Martin, he is a very experienced player who enjoys all aspects of the game. He is passionate about bridge and is a qualified EBUTA teacher.  The series of seminars will not make you an expert player but are designed to give you food for thought and if followed will undoubtedly enhance your enjoyment, increase your confidence, and give you better percentages per session.

The standard is aimed at all levels of player except beginers and even the most experienced players should have something to take away from the sessions. Martin has made it clear that they will be conducted with humour, understanding, and most importantly enjoyment.

The first in the series will be titled "Partnership Understanding" which will embrace discussions of systems, understandings, coping with interference, and convention cards.

Please see updated dates and times for remaining sessions below

Monday 6th September

Monday 11th October

Monday 8th November starting at 2.30pm

Monday 29th November starting at 2pm

Monday 13th December starting at 2pm

Children in Need 2021

We had another fantastic turnout on Tuesday 9th November and despite the enforced change of time to an afternoon session we still managed to raise £180 including a £30 donation from the village hall. Thanks to everyone for their generosity and hope to see you all again next year.

Help with Using BBO

Adam Wiseberg and Paul Gipson have each produced some excellent YouTube videos which can help with many aspects of using BBO - from initial registration through to the complexities of creating a team match and using sample hands for a teaching session.

You can click here to see Adam's videos and here to see Paul's.

Our thanks to Adam and Paul for creating these videos and for allowing us to use them.

Michael Coda Simultaneous Pairs 2021

Those of our members who can remember playing face-to-face (!!) will know that, for several years, we've taken part in the SCBA's annual Michael Coda Cup event in aid of local charities.

This year, whilst we had to to play online, the event still took place and an incredible 250 pairs took part, playing at one of eleven 'virtual clubs' across the county.  More than 20 of our members took part in the heat hosted by the Clevedon & Portishead club on 3 February.

A magnificent total of £3376 has been raised for CLIC Sargent.

A wonderful effort by the bridge players of Somerset.

The SCBA (Somerset Contract Bridge Association) are very active, we work closely with them and get a great deal of support from them.

Thank You Somerset

KSBC have been in receiprt of an extremely generous grant from SCBA to help us return to face to face bridge and also offer IT support for our training programme.

As a result we have purchased a new laptop and screen which you will soon see in use at the club.

They also paid for our Covid notices and cleaning equipment for the next 6months. In addition they have offered support to the club throughout lockdown by encouraging new initiatives such

as on-line play.

Their efforts are really appreciated.

SCBA County League

Both of our teams have now played their final matches of the SCBA's 2021 Spring League (on line of course), both played the teams which were top of their respective divisions and they came away with rather mixed success!

Our 'A' team, represented by Tricia Ewing, Liz Hale and Daphne and Joe Patrick, played a team from Frome and suffered an 18-2 defeat.

The 'B' team, represented this time by Graham Daniel, Tony Bowler, Tim Mather and David Sands played the best of several teams from Weston-super-Mare and inflicted their only defeat of the season on them, winning by an excellent 15-5 margin.

Both teams finished the season in a comfortable mid-table position and our congratulations go to them.

Click here to see the third division table and details of the matches played by our 'A' team and here to see the fourth division table and details of the matches played by our 'B' team.
