Hearts of Sussex Bridge Club originated from a few friends in Hassocks playing social Bridge to pass the time during the Covid Pandemic in 2020. Originally the Club operated soley online utilising the Bridge Base Online Platform  LINK TO BBO  Following the lifting of restrictions in August 2021 the Club has also now started Face to Face sessions.

Online Club Duplicate tournaments are held on BBO every Monday at 7pm. Face to Face Duplicate tournaments are held at Age Concern, Hassocks every Tuesday at 7.00pm - we operate a voucher system for table money and use BridgePal wireless scoring. 

This is the formal notice for the 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Hearts of Sussex Bridge Club (HoSBC).

The meeting will take place on Tuesday 24 November 2026 at Age Concern Hassocks, commencing at 6.30pm. All members are invited to attend.

The meeting should be reasonably short to enable Duplicate Bridge to played immediately afterwards. Members will pay no table money that evening.

In accordance with the Constitution, the following people have expressed a willingness to be re-elected:-

Peter Knight (Chairman)

Len North (Treasurer)

Brian Drabble (Secretary)

and the following are willing to be co-opted for another year:-

Tony Chaitow (Website Manager)

Lynda McBeth (Membership secretary)

Nominations are invited from anybody also wanting to fill any of the roles. If nominations are received by 10 November 2026 a vote will be taken at the AGM.

Any member of HoSBC may ask to have an item added to the agenda for discussion. Please let me know if you wish to add an item, also by 10 November 2026. The agenda will be sent out to all members no later than 17 November 2026.

For face to face members, the £10 annual membership fee is now due.

The treasurer prefers bank transfer for the Annual fee to:-

Please add your surname as the bank reference.

Alternatively the treasurer will collect membership fees on a Tuesday evening at Age Concern Hassocks. Please put cash in an envelope with member name(s) on the outside.

This annual fee reflects the standing costs of playing face to face with us, - playing with us online remains the same (no membership fee for online only members).

Sue's son has sent a message

In memory of Sue Cottrell

We are very sad to share that Sue passed away on 9 September 2026.

Sue loved her bridge and very much enjoyed playing with everyone at Hearts of Sussex, Henfield and Patcham bridge clubs. The friendships she made over the years brought her a great deal of happiness.

A memorial service will be held at Clayton Wood on Friday 13 November 2026. Due to the venue’s limited capacity, this will be predominantly a family occasion, with a small number of Sue’s closest bridge friends invited personally by the family.

Attendance at both the service and the reception will therefore be by invitation only. We kindly ask that you attend only if you have received a personal invitation. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and know that many others will wish to remember Sue in their own way.
