The following is the plan from Peter:

Programme of Bridge Lessons for Improvers at EPC for 2024

For the second series of lessons, I propose continuing to deliver one lesson every two or three weeks, aimed at those wishing to refresh their memory of many aspects of the game and revise and develop some key elements.

Each lesson will be ‘stand-alone’ so students can ‘opt in’ as meets their specific needs, and not worry about missing a session or two.

Each session will still cost £8 – ‘Pay as you Go’.

Dates (subject to change) for 2024:-

6.3.24 - A look at a few more basic bidding ‘misunderstandings’

20.3.24 - Slam bidding including ‘Splinter Bids’

3.4.24 - Signals

17.4.24 - Using Fourth Suit Forcing (FSF)

1.5.24 - Penalty doubles - when and what are the requirements.

15.5.24 - When it may be sensible to bend the ‘rules’ on Bidding

29.5.24 – This will be a topic selected by the students after discussion but could include ‘How Vulnerability affects Your Bidding’, Losing Trick Count – (go over basics and look at further refinements), or Cue bids (but I am not keen to do this)

Each lesson will last for about an hour and in addition there will be:-

  • preparatory quizzes
  • prepared hands
  • a provision for ‘questions answered by email’
  • comprehensive notes to follow up on each topic

The EPC Bridge Club

The Edgbaston Priory Bridge Club

Welcome to the EPC bridge club.

We are primarily a private member's racquets and fitness club, with a historic and proud connection to lawn tennis.

Bridge has been played at the club for over 40 years (see the 'timeline' menu section) and is a thriving and growing activity at the club.

We aim to support both learners and regular players, and host fun charity events and weekends away.

EPC Bridge Vision Statement

"To encourage and enable members to enjoy playing bridge and add value to the membership experience.

We will provide access to the game for beginners and help intermediate and good players to improve their skills through lessons up to and including competition level.

Bridge at the EPC will provide fun and foster friendship."
