Learn or Improve Your Bridge

If you want to learn bridge, information about classes and teachers is available through the NEBA and EBU websites. There are several clubs in the North East offering lessons including Brunton, Hexham and Whitley Bay. Classes usually start in September/October and are delivered face to face or online. There are also some excellent teaching notes available free on the NEBA website prepared by Neil and Inga Aiston aimed at beginners and improvers.

If you've already got some bridge experience and want to play and improve your game in a friendly environment, please note our 'gentle' bridge session where we play about 15 boards on a Thursday from 10.30 to 1.00 might be ideal. This is designed to support players move from lessons into more competitive bridge as well as for members or visitors to have a shorter, enjoyable game.

You can come along to a session without booking or having a partner as we have a host system in place. Hope to see you there!

STANNINGTON BC NEWS

A reminder that next Friday is our Teams of Four competition and the following Friday our AGM. Under the Minutes menu tab you will find a copy of last year's audited accounts and draft minutes to examine in advance to reduce paperwork.

On Friday 18th September our American visitor, Rich, and Hristo were first with Brian and Pat in second and David and Mark third.

On Thursday 17th September Barbara and Frank were first with Gordon and Jennifer and John and Bernard tied in second place.

If you spot a scoring mistake in any of our games, please contact the Secretary or Scorer by noon the following day.

WELCOME TO STANNINGTON BRIDGE CLUB

Stannington BC offers three regular games, all operating under EBU rules and awarding master points. On Wednesday evenings we play an online game of about 20 boards on BBO. On Thursday mornings at Stannington Village Hall we have a gentle bridge session of around 15 boards for members and improvers and provide hosts as partners. On Friday evenings we play face to face at the hall too when we hold our main club evening and play 24 boards. We have a monthly special event including friendly competitions, expert talks, cheese and wine evenings and, of course, our legendary Christmas Party!

We provide free refreshments and welcome visitors and players of all abilities to our friendly club.

2026 NEBA EVENTS

The 2026/27 NEBA League dates are 11th October; 15th November; 17th January; 14th March and 14th April.

NEBA will hold a Category Pairs competition at Durham BC on Saturday 24th October.

The NEBA 2026 Congress will be held on Saturday and Sunday 28th and 29th November at Blackwell Grange Hotel Darlington.

Minna Cannon's Funeral

We are sorry to learn of the death of former Cramlington and Newcastle member Minna Cannon at the age of 95.

Her funeral will take place on Friday 25th September at 12.45 at the East Chapel of West Road Crematorium Newcastle NE5 2JL.
