Lampeter News 24th May

LAMPETER BRIDGE CLUB

Brian King has worked hard to build a Bridgewebs Internet site for the Ceredigion Bridge Clubs.  Lampeter’s results for 30th April, 7th and 14th May were put on the site so that the site had real data.  The results for 21st May went straight to the site within five minutes of the last game ending!  A few minutes later and all the hands that had been played were on-screen as well.  The club had used hands prepared by a dealing machine and the file for the cards that evening was easily uploaded. The results and hands for Cardigan were added the day they played (Wednesday 22nd May).  Aberaeron’s results and hands for Thursday 23rd May were ready shortly after the evening’s play.

Members were impressed with the extra information available about the hands on the 21st.  Brian partnering Mair Harrison finished top with 65 Match Points (65%).  Five other pairs were competing.  So it was another week with three full tables.  Andrew Phillips and John Evans were second only one MP behind on 64%.  Sue Ardley partnering Norman Turner came third with 50%.  Terry and Melanie Laws finished fourth whilst Chris Dennis and Mohammad Tahla were fifth, leaving Dai Hayes and Jim Simpson last.  The computer analysis showed three slams were available including a Grand Slam (all thirteen tricks) of 7D on Board 2.  Yet no one bid any of the slams.  The deciding game was Board 23, Val and Brian against John and Andrew.  Val and Brian doubled the 5H contract then defeated it by 7 tricks scoring 2000 (equivalent to a Grand Slam) and taking the 4 MPs available for the board.  Two or less MPs would have made Andrew and John the winners!
