NEW!! Wednesday Evening Bridge: We are delighted to announce that, starting at 6.45pm on the 4th October, Gwynn Davis has agreed to give a short seminar before the start of each Face to Face bridge session on Wednesday evenings. We are sure that they will be entertaining and most informative and certainly well worth attending. See the notice below for more details.

Come and join us on Monday afternoons for Social Bridge in the Club (with free coffee and home made cakes!) starting at 1.30pm and on Thursday afternoons when play starts in the club at 2pm and is suitable for players of all standards.

Wednesday Afternoon Supported Play

We are pleased to confirm the resumption of Supported Play Sessions between 14:00 and 17:00hrs every Wednesday starting on 20th September continuing until December 13th  2023, cost £5 per person.

Supported Play sessions of between 16 and 20 boards give you the opportunity to play bridge in a friendly environment where you can ask for help when you are not sure about bidding a particular hand.

Wednesday Evening Seminars

We are delighted to announce that, starting on the 4th October, Gwynn Davis has agreed to give a short seminar before the start of each Face to Face bridge session on Wednesday evenings.

These will be 15 minute seminars starting at 6.45pm, with bridge to commence no later than 7.05pm. There will be no charge other than the usual table money for the bridge session and it is perfectly OK for anyone who, for whatever reason, does not attend the seminar to arrive to play when it is finished.

The seminars are aimed at anyone seeking to improve their game and will focus on bidding judgement and card play (whether as declarer or in defence). Gwynn will use one hand to explore key principles in these two areas. It might be a hand that has been played at the club, or it could be from elsewhere. There won't be much on bidding 'conventions' or artificial methods generally, although he will be happy to talk about these if asked.

We are sure that these seminars will be entertaining and most informative and we are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Wednesday evenings and at the Seminars.

Bridge Talk & Supported Play

Bridge Talk & Supported Play: 7.00pm to 10.00pm £5 pp payable on the night.

The next talk will be on Thursday 5th October and the topic is 'Cue Bidding Controls'.

A new event on the first Thursday of the month started on the 2nd March. There will be a short talk (15 minutes) on a specific bridge topic and then between 15 and 18 boards where you can "ask the expert" for help.

Our April bridge talk covered simple single suited overcalls and more importantly, how to respond to your partners overcall, in May we considered two suited overcalls and in June we continued with "More On Two Suited Overcalls", July's subject was "Splinter Bids" and in September we covered "Trial and Cue Bids"

All are welcome.

Winter League

We will be running the usual Winter League this year.

This is comprised of head to head matches for teams of 4-6 players.

We will be starting on Thursday 14th September at 7pm in the club.  Thereafter it will take place on the 2nd Thursday of each month.

For more information, and to register captain & team names contact Liz Atkinson  on liz_atkinson@btinternet.com  by the end of August.

Bridge Tuition

10 Week BEGINNING BRIDGE COURSE will be held on Wednesdays from 2.00pm to 4.00pm starting on 31st January 2024 with a free taster session on 24th January.

The Beginners' and Continuing Bridge Lessons have proved to be very successful in introducing new people to our wonderful game.

Courses will continue to be held at least twice a year with the aim of providing a continuous flow of beginners and new members. There is a Bridge Beginners' Lessons flyer (Click HERE) and we hope that you will arrange for them to be placed in your golf clubs, gyms and nearby shops to help to generate interest. Laminated copies can be obtained from the Bridge Office.

You can get more information or just book your place on the 10 week course (cost £190) by emailing: teaching@cardiffbridgeclub.org

An Appeal from a Member

Hi there, I'd really love your support
Your mum, son or friend. Anyone can get Parkinson’s, young or old. Every hour, two more people are diagnosed. And there’s no cure. Yet.

That’s why I’m taking part in Walk for Parkinson's: Cardiff 2023 on the 8th October and fundraising for Parkinson’s UK.

With your help we can fund better care, drive research breakthroughs and one day find a cure.

Please sponsor me by clicking HERE

Thank you!
