Welcome to Cardiff Bridge Club
What's Occurring?

Wednesday 23rd October 2024: The popular PRO-AM TEAMS back from our Summer break. Come along with your partner and we will match you with team mates.

As an experiment we are holding the October session on a Wednesday evening the 23rd - Face to Face as usual. We hope that this will be more attractive. It would be appreciated and helpful if you could let us know in advance if you can play (mjoseph63@hotmail.co.uk).

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.

Tuesday October 29th: MiniBridge for Children will take place on  in the Club from 10.30am-2.30pm. Drinks are provided but please bring a packed lunch. Click HERE for the detailed poster.

MiniBridge Update: At the moment (10 Oct) we have sixteen youngsters aged 8-14 and six parents/grandparents (three of them non-players who are interested in starting). The WBU have prepared super packs for taking away, with cards, card holders (for the young ones) and booklets.  We could possibly take a couple more but hurry! Contact Maggie on mpiercewales@gmail.com or 07732625032 for further details or to book a place.

Fri 1st to Sun 3rd November: The Porthcawl Congress Returns! Main Congress and Holiday Congress - Open Pairs, Swiss Pairs and Swiss Teams at the Seabank Hotel, Porthcawl. Click HERE for details.

Sunday 17th November:  Inaugural Handicap Swiss Teams - This is the ideal format to involve everyone. Each 4 person team will be assigned a handicap, giving the opportunity for anyone to win. No matter how much of a beginner you are, you will be able to give the experts a run for their money, so there is no reason not to come and join in the club's 50th Anniversary celebrations.

This will be a 2 session event starting at 11.00am and finishing at approximately 6.00pm. Entry is free.

By popular request, the preferred form of luncheon is one provided by our own Members. In this regard please let Veronica Burrows know what you propose to bring (we don't need cakes) by email at veronicab17@hotmail.co.uk or on the list in the main hall of the club.

We are probably limited to 14 Teams, so please get your entries in soon and in any event by Sunday the 10th November to enable the handicaps to be prepared (allowing time for protest!). Either sign up on the Club Notice Board or advise Martin Joseph at mjoseph63@hotmail.co.uk

If you are only a pair, then let us know and we will endeavour to put you with others suitably placed

Sunday 8th December: EWBA Mixed Pairs 11am in the club. Click HERE for more info on the EWBA website.

Supported Play sessions of between 16 and 20 boards give you the opportunity to play bridge in a friendly environment where you can ask for help when you are not sure about bidding a particular hand. Please try to arrive around 10 minutes early so we can set-up movement and get play started promptly.

Continuing Bridge 10 Week Course will be held on Wednesdays from 4.30pm to 6.30pm in the main hall and starts in January 2025. For more details email teaching@cardiffbridgeclub.org

The Beginners' and Continuing Bridge Lessons have proved to be very successful in introducing new people to our wonderful game. To see what some former learners have said about their tuition click on Teaching Review BE..pdf and Teaching Review DB.pdf

Courses will continue to be held at least twice a year with the aim of providing a continuous flow of beginners and new members. There is a Bridge Beginners' Lessons flyer (Click HERE) and we hope that you will arrange for them to be placed in your golf clubs, gyms and nearby shops to help to generate interest. Laminated copies can be obtained from the Bridge Office.

You can get more information or just book your place on the 10 week course (cost £190) by emailing: teaching@cardiffbridgeclub.org

Please spread the word around. By getting people to learn to play bridge you will be doing your part in keeping the game going for many years to come and supporting your Club. You can download a more detailed flyer about the course by clicking on bridgecourseflyer-January2024.pdf

We are now using iBEscore, a phone/tablet based scoring app.

To download the app go to Applestore, Googleplay or your Appstore and search for iBEscore.

The interface is clear, colourful and very user friendly. Please download and explore the app.

The HELP section of the app contains details for players on how to enter scores. You can use a smart phone if you wish but most people use the tablets that we provide.
