The Swiss Teams event at the LlanBrighton was quite a tense affair, at one point the team were in 12th, then they were in the top 4 and they actually managed to achieve third and only 1 point behind second placed team. Onward to the Europeans!

Abbey had a bit of an adventure in Brighton yesterday! Competing with Martin Jones in the Swiss Pairs at the EBU-WBU event, imaginatively titled ‘LlanBrighton’, it was a 7 x 7 competition, and they came second out of 72 pairs. The best news is that they were only narrowly beaten by Sally Anoyrkatis and John Athey – who you may well remember are Abbey and Martin’s England partners. So, the European England Team Smith held the two top spots which is ‘great ahead of the Euros!’ Abbey reported after the event. Today the four of them compete in the Swiss Teams!

This is the third in a series of Master Classes by Abbey at the Abbey Smith Bridge Club and will be about 'pre-empting'. Abbey will provide an entertaining and informative mix of teaching, practical advice and exemplar hands, in her own inimitable style.

From 31st May 2026 booking is open for ASBC members at £20 pp. From 25th June 2026 bookings will be open to other bridge clubs for £25pp. For non members that don't know Abbey, Abbey regularly plays for England and her style of teaching is relaxed, fun and the Abbey Smith Bridge Club has excellent accessible facilities in Buckinghamshire 8 miles from Milton Keynes. The ASBC is one of the fastest growing bridge clubs in England and is thriving with more than 250 members that play regularly.
