| Obituary |
Celia Ruth Parsons
Celia Ruth Parsons, aged 96, passed away peacefully at The Mountbatten Hampshire Hospice on 7 July 2026, following a long battle with colorectal cancer.
In her later years, Celia was cared for with great devotion by her daughter, Mary, until professional care became necessary.
Celia was a devoted and accomplished bridge player. In the 1970s, she founded a bridge club in Freshwater, which was subsequently absorbed into
West Wight Bridge Club. She came very close to achieving the rank of Grand Master before her illness interrupted her play.
Although the number of WWBC members who will remember Celia from those early days is now sadly reduced, there remains a core group who will recall her
contribution to bridge in Freshwater and West Wight with great fondness.
She will be remembered with affection and respect by those who knew her through the bridge community.
