The Winners!
2023 Vince Bevan Pairs

Congratulations to Gareth Jones & Lee Collier eventual winners of the 2023 Vince Bevan Pairs trophy, with Tim Dean & Peter Milewski closely following in 2nd place.  Tim & Peter had been in the lead until the last round....hard luck guys!

Many thanks to Dave Nicklin for organising and directing an enjoyable day's bridge.

2023 GP Swiss Pairs

Congratulations to Kevin Maddox and Tony Haworth this year's winners, shown above with WWBA President, Steve Jarvis.  Kevin & Tony made a strong start, and despite a valiant effort from Tony Disley & Simon Richards, who shared the lead going into the last round, held on to win by 9 VPs.  In 2nd place were Chris & Angela Overton followed by Tony Cookson & Wayne Jenkins in 3rd, Tony Disley & Simon Richards 4th.

It is great to see that F2F competition numbers are improving at last - with almost twice as many pairs today compared with this event last year, so rapidly heading for pre-Covid levels.  Keep up the good work!

Many thanks to our ATO Dave Nicklin for organising and directing this highly popular event.

John Isaac Pairs

Emer Disley & Tony Haworth (2023 John Isaac winners)
with WWBA Chair, Steve Jarvis.

For the first time since 2019 we were able to hold our AGM and John Isaac GP Pairs competition face to face. Ably directed by Sarah Amos, nineteen pairs pairs battled it out with Emer & Tony finishing just ahead of Chris & Angela Overton in 2nd place, with Simon Richards & Tony Disley hot on their heels in 3rd.  it was good to see that numbers for the John Isaac were almost back to pre-Covid levels, though sadly we had to cancel the Ann Dolan Novice event through lack of support.

Come on Novices, let's see if we can get the Ann Dolan back up and running next year!

Full results below:             Congratulations to the winners!

Laidlaw Murray 2023

Congratulations to Peter Milewski, Tim Dean, Mike Baker & Steve Jarvis, worthy winners of this year's Laidlaw Murray Cup for teams of four.

followed by Ian Grove, Bob Alderdice, Christine Smith & Eleanor Price in third.
Nine teams enjoyed a great day's face to face bridge at Tumble, ably directed, as ever, by Sarah Amos.
Thank you Sarah and well done everyone!

Steve Jarvis (WWBA Chair) with Angela & Chris Overton,
2023 winners of the Ossie Evans Cup

Things are looking up!

2022 Vince Bevan Pairs

This year, for the first time, the Vince Bevan Pairs event was open to all WBU members, rather than being restricted to those from the Western Area, Congratulations to the winners - Simon Gottschalk & Glyn Meredith from East Wales (pictured above).  The best from the West were Steve Jarvis & Peter Milewski in 2nd place who were closely followed by Vida Halford & Glyn Williams and Steve Webb & Martin David in joint 3rd.  Many thanks to Sarah for her efficient directing, making it a most enjoyable event for all.

2022 GP Swiss Pairs f2f @ Llanarthne

Congratulations to Steve Jarvis & Mike Baker, winners of this year's WWBA green-pointed Swiss Pairs. Steve & Mike made their way rapidly to table 1 and although Jennifer Wardell & Nalini Dewan in 2nd place and Vida Halford & Glyn Williams in 3rd tried valiantly to catch them up, it was to no avail!

Today's event was directed calmly and efficiently (as ever) by the lovely Sarah Amos (shown above with Steve & Mike)
