It is with great sadness that we notify members of the death of Elisa Davey on Friday 10 July 2026. Elisa was a member of the Westcott Bridge Club for many years and will be sadly missed.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to her family and friends

| Charity Bridge Day in support of Brigitte Trust, Friday 16th October |
The Westcott Bridge Club charity bridge event on Friday 16October 2026 at the Westcott Village Hall was an outstanding success with over £3,000 raised for the Brigitte Trust. The hall was packed with 76 players and 9 helpers. The meal was delicious and the whole organisation went off without a hitch. Beverley and her team of elves and all those who helped with setting up, car parking, catering, raffle, lucky dip and, of course, Ann deserve our thanks.

| Guided Play Initiative (GP) |
After Management Group consideration of ideas to encourage new intermediate members to WBC, it has been decided to establish ‘Guided Play’ from 2nd November 2026 for a 6 month trial period alongside normal play on a Monday night.
The idea is that intermediates or improvers would play non-competitive bridge within Club night. 3 GPers would be led by a club member in playing bridge together to gain confidence in bidding/play skills. This could be to a maximum 3 tables per session (9 GPers and 3 club members who would supervise for the night. Alternatively 2 tables of 4 GPers with 1 club member supervising both tables and not playing. Configuration will be based on the number of GPers.
Play will probably be in the main hall with breaks alongside normal play and a £3 table fee would be payable. GPers would need to book in, not least to allocate full member resource.
It is envisaged that play would take place in the corner of the room near piano/stage, but if discussion of hands etc caused too much disruption, play could be relocated to the side room
Benefits to GPers would be to hopefully improve confidence and skills to allow transition into full club play. Benefits to the club would be additional table income and hopefully a stream of new players, plus attracting new people to Westcott as part of our general marketing efforts. Perhaps existing members who are finding full club play too much might additionally trade down to Guided Play.
The use of crib sheets (suggest No Fear bridge) would be allowed, even encouraged.
After 6 months we will review the initiative based on its performance.
