COMPETITIONS FOR 2023

WARRINGTON COMPETITIONS 2023

1    Pairs

1.1              Annual, January to December.

1.2              Four competitions: Monday F2F and Friday on-line, Scratch and Handicap.

1.3              Pairs must play 12 or more of the qualifying events.

1.4              Handicap calculations:

1.4.1     Handicaps are calculated as average result over the previous 12 months (rolling basis) less 50%

1.4.2      Handicap for a pair is the average for the two players

1.4.3      Handicaps are constrained to range of +10 to -10.

1.4.4      Handicaps are calculated from all Pairs results, not distinguishing between F2F and on-line, and including results obtained playing with non-Members.

1.4.5      Minimum of 5 results needed to assign a handicap.

1.4.6      New Members – handicap assigned after 5 events.

2    Jordan Vase

For 2023, this will be a pairs competition, not teams of 4. It will be played over 5 Monday evenings, F2F, using Cross-IMPs scoring, on a handicap basis according to 1.4 above.   To qualify, a pair must play in at least 3 of the 5 sessions. If a pair plays in more than 3 sessions, their best three scores will count.

The 2023 dates are

  1. 27 March
  2. 29 May (Bank Holiday Monday)
  3. 31 July
  4. 25 September
  5. 27 November

3      Elizabeth Bennett Memorial Trophy

This is a new competition for 2023, to be played annually in a single F2F playing session.

It is duplicate pairs handicap, with handicaps assigned as in 1.4 above.

The date for 2023 is Monday 3rd July.

4       Most Improved player of the year

This will run over the full calendar year, and is open to all full members and new player members of the Club. On-line members are not eligible. The winner will be the member whose NGS grade has improved the most over the year. We have recorded everyone’s exact NGS grade at 1/1/23 as a datum. We will repeat the exercise on 31/12 23 to determine the winning individual. If a member has no grade at the start of the year, their starting point will be the first grade they are awarded.

5        Knock-out teams and multiple teams

These competitions will not run in 2023. The Committee will keep under review to see when we can reinstate.
