To play in one of the club's online duplicates, you will need to do the following before taking part:
- Create an account on Bridge Base Online.
- Buy some BB$ on BBO. It is important when players purchase BB$ that they do it from the BBO website here and not through the app. You will be charged a surcharge if you purchase through the app.
- Email your BBO username and EBU number to David Emerson (by clicking on his name), before the first time you play. This is so we can pass on your username to the Director. Wallingford games are for club members only, if the Director doesn't have your username in advance of the game, you may not be allowed to play. You only need to do this once.
- Logon to BBO and register in advance of the tournament.
The tournament will be open for registration 2 hours before it starts. Both players in a partnership need to be logged on to BBO for them to register. They can then logoff but, need to login again and be in the Competitive playing area in time for the start of the tournament. If you are not in the Competitive playing area at the start of the tournament, you will not be able to take part.
Here are instructions for finding and registering in Wallingford duplicate games:
- Log on to BBO (www.bridgebase.com).
- Click Competitive under Play or Watch Bridge.
- Then click All Tournaments.
- In the Search Box (above where it says ‘Entries’) type Wallingford.
- Click on the event title in the list (not the host).
- Enter the BBO name of your partnee and Click invite. If partner is logged onto BBO, and accepts the invitation, you will both be registered in the tournament (the entry goes yellow to confirm it has been received). Just before the game begins, you must be in the Competitive playing area, where you will be taken to the event and to your first opponents.
- If you are playing with your partner from the same address, it is recommended that you play in different rooms, to avoid the temptation of discussing the hands during play.
If you haven't played on BBO before, have a look at the useful videos in the Online Bridge Section of this website. Try to play some practice games to become familiar with how it works.
If you would like help getting started on BBO, please click here to email the Club's BBO Buddy who will be happy to help you.
