Roger Haycock |
It is with great sadness that the club has to announce the death of Roger Haycock.
Roger was a member of the club for 45 years and during the 1990s served on the club committee including several years as club chairman, in 1997 he was made a Life Member. At all times he was the perfect, quiet gentleman, a pleasure to both play with and to play against.
For the last few years Roger has fought against Parkinson’s disease with tremendous courage and determination. He was still playing in the online club event on Wednesday evenings until early this year and he was still playing online with a group of friends until a few weeks ago.
The club extends its sympathy to his wife Nora, who cared for him so well as his problems increased, and to the rest of his family. Details of the funeral will be published later.

FESTIVAL PAIRS: fun & action-packed event raises £2,000! |
We had a fantastic turnout and great cross-section of players for our groundbreaking ‘bridge, bingo and cream tea’ event on Sunday 15th September - including some who were having their first taste of a bridge club. Many thanks to all who made it possible - with special mention to Debbie Roberts, Gaye Kyle and Sue Waddington. We raised a stunning total of £2,000+ for Cancer Research UK, as part of the EBU’s Festival of Bridge.
Congratulations to all the winners. In the bridge, top NS pair were David & Denise Skippings; EW Jill Tunley & Pat Strange; and closest to 50% Dot Knox & Heather Steddon. To see final handicapped results go to Festival Pairs on club website, and click the Handicap button above the table.

Please note the road closure and diversion affecting access to Benson continues until 4th October.
The road works chiefly affects members travelling to the club from areas north of Benson. Those approaching from the south and east should be able to use their usual route.
At the BP/McDonalds roundabout, you need to continue along the A4074 turning left into Church Rd and picking up the B4009 shortly afterwards.
