Attention all Gardeners!!!

At the Club AGM it was announced that The Club is looking for ways to raise money for charity and this is a great idea!!!!

It is that time of year when gardens start to come to life. Please if you have any seedlings, plants or produce surplus to your requirements, label it up and bring it into the Club at Roke. There are tables just inside the entry door where you can leave your offerings and also a donation box. All proceeds will go to The British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research. The WBC Committee have agreed to this fund raising effort and it is hoped the Club will raise lots and lots of money for these 2 charities. You can also pick up a bargain!!!!

Contact: Carol on 01491 824653 or Venita on 01235 812717

Andrew Billson

We are sorry to report that Andrew Billson passed away on 6th May, having spent the last couple of months in Royal Derby Infirmary. He was 85.

Andrew started playing occasionally at our Club before Covid when visiting family nearby. After online sessions were introduced, he became a regular and popular Club player and played at the club online about three times a week. He also played for the club in the Wessex League. His "enthusiasm for bridge was second to none," friends said.

There is no formal funeral service, but Andrew's daughters invite club members to join other friends and family at a celebration of his life in Derby on Friday 29th May. For further details, please contact Sheena Crompton or secretary@wallingfordbridgeclub.org.uk

Change of competition - Wednesdays Online at 7pm

Please note that now our new competition year has started, the 4th Wednesday of the month will be for X-Imped pairs. This follows a unanimous committee decision to phase out Mixed Pairs sessions.

What are X-Imps?  In a nutshell, X-Imped scoring demands a strategy similar to Teams games - ie getting an overtrick is not as important as ensuring you make your contract. Also you should avoid extreme, negative scores as they are far more costly than just getting a bottom.  Want to know more? click here for one of many links on the web.
