WBC - Chris Maynard Club Duplicate Championships Pairs - 2024

On Saturday 9th November 2024, we  held our first ever WBC Club Championships over 36 boards, which will become an annual event. This was a "Blue Point" event & we wished to include as many of our members as we possibly could. To achieve this, the event was stratified, which means that at whatever level your partnership was rated, you were competing against other partnerships with the same level, and NOT against the every pairing in the Club. There WERE  prizes for the winners of each stratification level.

The winners of the event were (with prizes presented by Pat Maynard) :-

  • At stratification level A - Alan Ardron & David Donaldson. They came 1st overall. They received an engraved glass bell each (in tribute to Chris's bell ringing achievements).

  • At stratification level B - Liz Clarke & John Dalton. They came 2nd overall. They received an engraved pen each.

  • At stratification level C - Deborah Poppleton & Barry Copley. They came 6th overall. They also received an engraved pen each.

  • Next year we hope that we will have some different pairs entering this competition, as this is to become an annual event, that will next take place on the 8th November 2025.

We wish to offer thanks to everyone involved in whatever way in making this event happen, as this was our first venture into hosting Blue Points events at our Club.

To give some context to this event, we as a committee, decided to run a Club Championship as an annual event, purely because we were lacking a prestigious event in our calendar. However, in the run up to this event, one of the stalwarts of our Bridge Club, passed away, and so we decided to name these Championships after him, in memory of all the many deeds & memories he left behind, for us all to treasure. We look forward to the next event...................
