Unit 216 Board Meeting, November 4, 2021

Present: Carolyn Sabroske, Carolyn Miller, Irene Boyd, Bonni Newton, Jean Friedrich, Tom Olsson, Kristin Welter

Absent: Sally Meixner, Denise Dornbier

The meeting was called to order by President Carolyn Sabroske.  The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read.

Treasurer’s Report: Given by Carolyn Miller. Approved.

Education Report: Since The last meeting of the board, two bridge classes were taught. One by Craig Nelsen and Carolyn Sabroske.  It averaged 2 to 6 players. Rich Newell taught a play of the hand class. It averaged approximately 20 students.  Bill Stork wants to teach a beginning class at the senior center for four weeks and then give students a free play at the bridge center. Bonni Newton will provide him with any necessary teaching materials.

Bridemates: The new bridge mates are up and running.

New Business:

Board Members: New board members are needed to replace those whose terms are or have expired or are no longer available.  Tom Olsson expressed a willingness to serve another term.  Kristin Welter agreed to extend her term a year if needed.  Irene Boyd agreed to fill the Vice President position on the board.  Carolyn Sabroske will try to find a person to fill the open Secretary position.

Upcoming Tournament: The board approved a plan to hold a non-championship sectional January 7-8.  A non-championship sectional is allowed when we expect 20 or fewer tables per session.  It is allowable to use a qualified club director.  Gregg Walsh agreed to direct the tournament.  Masterpoints are limited to 65% of an open sectional.  There will be no Swiss teams game, only pairs.  Carolyn Sabroske will contact the corporate board to see what the rent will be so we can set the entry fee.  We are hoping for $10 per session.  No food will be provided.  Carolyn Sabroske will prepare flyers once the entry fee is set.  She will also find a partnership coordinator.

Library: Thanks to Bonni Newton and Jesse Chance for organizing the library!

AED:  The AED needs a new battery.  The board approved the purchase of the battery.  Carolyn Sabroske will take care of it.

The meeting was adjourned.

Kristin Welter Acting Secretary
