Geoff Nicholas
|

It is with great sadness we report that Geoff Nicholas died on 10th July. Geoff fell ill after Covid but tragically never fully recovered.
Geoff was a long-standing member of Thame Bridge Club, and regularly provided pre-dealt hands for our club sessions. He was widely known in local bridge circles, having played a key role in the management of Aylesbury Bridge Club, as well as being a valued member of both Wallingford Bridge Club and the Oxfordshire Bridge Association.
He reached the rank of Grand Master and his many achievements included running both the OBA Seniors at Wallingford and the OBA Wessex League. The bridge world will miss his motivation, enthusiasm, friendliness and compassion.
Funeral arrangements to follow.

Welcome to Thame Bridge Club |
We aim to provide good but friendly bridge for players of all abilities.
The Club meets on Monday evenings in the Masonic Hall, High Street, Thame, OX9 2BZ (on the South side of the street, opposite the Book House).
Duplicate Pairs Sessions start promptly at 7.00pm, so please arrive by 6.45pm, and be seated by 6.50pm. Hands are pre-dealt using Duplimate. After each session the results are published (together with hand records) on this website.
Table money is £3.00 for members, £4.00 for non-members
Visitors are always welcome: visiting pairs can just turn up on the night, but please contact a committee member first, in case a Members Only event is scheduled.
If you are new to the area and do not have a partner, please contact any committee member and we will do our best to arrange a partner for you, though we do not yet offer a regular "host" service.
A visitor's first session is free.

OBA Wessex League/s |
Wessex League – a TEAMS format:
TBC has been invited to join the 2025 Wessex Leagues playing against teams from other Oxfordshire Bridge Association Clubs.
There are 2 competitions:
a) the Main League - possibly five divisions for teams of 8 players, (counts towards your NGS score, and earns you masterpoints for matches won. and/or
b) the Daytime League, for teams of 4 players.
We can enter as many teams as wish to play.
The Main League is probably more suited to experienced pairs.
The Daytime League has 3 divisions, and is for players of ALL levels. Division 1 is played at a relatively high standard, but most new entries start in Division 3, which is particularly suitable for anyone new to teams bridge. There is a one-off cost to the club for entering a team (£30 for the Daytime League). As we haven’t been represented in the Wessex League since Covid, the Daytime League looks more suitable for Thame.
Matches can be played F2F (but the home team is expected to provide a venue if its F2F), so mainly its online via RealBridge.
You can only represent one club in the Main League, but another in the Daytime League. I think we would need 6 volunteer (or nominated) players to be sure of being able to put up a team of four for each fixture.
Deadline for our application is August 8th.
If interested, especially if you would like to organise a team, please let me know by phone (01844 208739, or 07816916673) or by email (keithschurch@gmail.com), but note I will be away from July 17th until August 6th.
