Children in Need

Well done everybody!  We raised £1,005 for Children in Need, a magnificent effort for a small club which only meets on one evening a week.  Here is a link to all the donations from bridge clubs.  Thanks go to Maison Francaise for waiving the room rent for the evening, Christina for selling her honey, and Krys and Neil for selling raffle tickets (picture of raffle prizes above!).  And thanks to all of you for being so generous.  If you’d like to see the history of our donations over the past 15 years, click on Club History on the left of this page.

Well done also to Mary-Ann Sheehy and Aleks Lishkov who came 6th in the Pachabo Cup over the weekend of 10th/11th June.  This is an event contested by the holders of the teams-of-four championships of each EBU county association.  Another splendid achievement!

Stratified Sim Pairs 13 March 2017

Nobody managed to achieve a result within the club that broke the 60% barrier, so well done to Christina & Tom on emerging top of the pack with just under that mark. Bridget & John Spencer did well to finish second with 59.09% and Moira & Cliff third on 58.52%.

As is quite commonly the case, the positions are somewhat different when performances are compared against many other pairs nationally. Currently Sandra & partner have top spot in the club with around 61%, Bridget & John second of the club pairs with about 59%, and Christina & Tom third on approximately 56.5%. These percentages will change as more clubs upload their scores.

Our club's National Scores are at
http://www.ebu.co.uk/sim-pairs/000210/clubs/00210427

and the hand commentary is at

This evening's event was stratified. The explanation for the stratification and award of Master Points is given at the beginning of the commentary.

Winter Ladder 2016-17

The Winter Ladder has just finished and it's very well done to Sandra & Krys who have jointly won the ladder: the average of their ten best scores was an impressive 63.45%.   Robert was third on 60.64% and the Sheppards joint fourth on 60.36%.  To see the full results click on 'Competitions' on the left-hand side of the Club website's homepage.  You have to be a Club Member and to have played at least ten times during the season for your result to feature on the list.

The Committee has made the decision to discontinue the Ascenders' Competition, since it seems that it is no longer generally being won by improving players, as was the original intention when it was first introduced.  We are still keen to recognise and encourage better play at all levels. We run handicap events several times a year and at each AGM the Chairman's Cup is presented to the most improved player (in the eyes of the Committee).  We therefore hope that improving players feel they are still being catered for!

Harwell Cup success

On 12th February Sandra & Krys, playing with two non-members, won the OBA's Harwell Cup for the county multiple teams-of-four championship.  For the full results click here.

Harrogate Congress

Congratulations to Aleks Lishkov who was in a team of four which came 4th (out of 63) in the recent Harrogate Congress Swiss Teams event!

The EBU has published its annual Master Point reports.  To see details of Club members who have done well click here.

Winter Handicap Pairs

Congratulations to Joanna Donkin & Pat Lewis, who won the Summertown Handicap Pairs on Monday 30 January with a handicap adjusted score of 61.46%. They will each receive a bottle of wine as a prize. In second place were James Bentley & Valerie Goodchild, with Jill Brandini & Vita Granelli in third.

Full handicap results can be found by clicking on the Competitions tab on the left-hand menu.

British Winter Sim Pairs - 9th January

Congratulations to Sandra & Krys, who won our club heat with 60.61%, closely followed by Moira & Cliff, with Erica & Christopher in 3rd place.

Nationally the results are somewhat different, with Moira & Cliff leading on 64.64%, Ameena & Matthew in 2nd position, and Erica & Christopher in 3rd.
