Bridge Education in Oxford

Oxford Bridge Club runs a comprehensive bridge education programme under the banner of Oxford Bridge School. Courses are available at all levels, from beginners to more experienced players. Further details are on their website.  

Wessex League 2019-20

This is a teams-of-eight competition for Oxfordshire clubs. We have two teams: our "A" team is in Division 2 and our "B" team in Division 4.  Speak to Howard Arnes (A-Team) or Roger Heath-Brown (B-team) if you would like to play for Summertown.  For fixtures, results and match reports click on the link on the lefthand side of this page.  We are also participating in a daytime league: speak to Neil Whiting if you are interested in playing in this.

British Autumn Sim Pairs
Alison and Robert, who had a very good win with 67.07%.  Also to Liza playing with visitor, Diana Nettleton, who finished second, and to David Bygott and Steven Bliss who came third.

Binyon Cup 2013

Peter Owen-Smith & Lorraine who won the Binyon Cup (our mixed pairs competition) this year with an excellent score of over 66%.  Sandra & Krys were second and Tunde & Roger third. In addition to the cup itself, the winners also receive a bottle of wine each. 

Autumn Handicap Competition 2013

Ruth Kim & Howard Arnes who won the Autumn Handicap competition with an adjusted score of 65.47%. Well done also to runners up Patricia Kirwan & Anna Rosenberg and Jane Armstrong & Clare Lim in third place. Full results here. The  winners receive a bottle of wine each.

EBU Autumn Sim Pairs

Sandra & Krys, winning in the Club on 66.67%, with David & Jeremy Bygott second on 64.39 and Betty & John third with 60.09%.  Nationally David & Jeremy are currently first in the club, with Sandra & Krys a very close second.  Here is a link to the national results which are subject to change as results from other clubs come in:

Summer Ladder Competition 2013
Krys, who has won this year's Summer Ladder: the average of his ten best scores was 62.92%.  Robert Gasser was very close behind in second place on 62.36%, Sandra was third and Peter Sherry fourth.
 
The Ascender's Prize, which compares average scores this summer with those in the Summer Ladder 2012 ladder, has been won by Paul Holland who improved his scores by an impressive 7.28%.  Hilde was second with 6.86% and Peter Sherry third with 5.75%. 
 
Well done to all. 
 
For both competitions you have to be a Club Member and to have played at least ten times during the relevant season.  
British Summer Simultaneous Pairs

 

Bridget & John who won the sim pairs on Monday 29th July.  Hilde & Ashley, Lorraine & Peter and three other pairs were close behind and nationally Hilde & Ashley are lying 1st of the Summertown pairs.  Here is the link to the national results:

Congratulations to David & Jeremy Bygott who won the Midsummer Pairs competition for the Bygott trophy with an excellent score of 67.52%. Well done also to Robert Triggs & Viccy Fleming who were second with over 60%, and to Steven & Steph Bliss who came third.

Oxfordshire Bridge Association Congress, 15-16 June

Congratulations to Aleks Lishkov (playing with non-members) who came second in the Swiss pairs  and fourth in the Swiss teams at the OBA congress. Congratulations also to Pat Lewis and Miriam Seaver who won the Sandra Landy trophy for non-expert pairs, with Viv Stevenson and Ewen Moir as runners-up. Lorna Swadling and Alastair Gidman also did very well to come third in the Swiss teams. Full results are available on the OBA website.

EBU Spring Sim Pairs 13 May 2013

Steven and Steph Bliss who won the Summertown heat of the EBU Spring Simultaneous Pairs, with a score of 65.47%. They are currently lying 5th in the overall national results. Second were Paul Stevenson and Roger Heath-Brown with 64.02% and third David and Jeremy Bygott with 61.61%. Well done all. 

 
Spring Handicap Competition 2013

Ann Lee & Mike Prew, winners of our Spring Handicap Competition. They will each receive a bottle of wine as prize. Their result on handicap was 63.62%. Vita Granelli & Jill Brandini were second on 60.77%, with Patricia Kirwan & Anna Rosenberg third on 60.57%. Well done all. Click here for the full handicapped results

British Spring Sim Pairs, 8 April 2013

Sara Alden and Neil Whiting who won the Summertown heat of the British Spring SIM pairs with a score of 61.94%. Second were Alison Withers Green and Robert Gasser on 61.81%, and third Stuart and Maxine Henry on 60.42. Well done all. Nationally, the club results are slightly different, with Sara and Neil first, Alison and Robert second and John Cecil and Betty Dick currently lying third. The national results are subject to change as more clubs upload their results. 

 
Winter Ladder Competition 2012-2013

Alastair Gidman and Lorna Swadling who are joint winners of the 2012-2013 Winter Ladder competition, with an average score of 62.79% for their 10 best scores. Joint third were Christopher and Erica Sheppard, with John Cecil coming fifth. Well done all. Click here for the full table of results.  

 
The Ascenders Competition, which compares average scores this winter with those on the Winter Ladder 2011-2012, was won by Ian Pearson who improved his scores by 4.43%. John Cecil was close behind on 4.37%, and Christopher Sheppard was third. Well done all. Click here for the full list of results. 
Stratified Sim Pairs 12 March 2013

Erica and Christopher on a fine win in the club with 60.14%, ahead of Liza and Peter on 59.68% and Lorna & Alastair on 58.39%. Scored nationally, Erica and Christopher are also our leading pair, currently on 61.95%, Sandra and Krys have crept up to 60.28%, while Lorna and Alastair are on 60.19%, although these scores may change as more results come in. Well done to all.

 
County Pairs final

National Pairs heat, Monday 28 January

David & Jeremy Bygott who came first in the National Pairs heat with 63.39%. John Deech & Rita Todd were second, and Neil Whiting & Sara Alden third. Full results may be found here. The top six pairs qualify for the Regional Finals at the West Midlands Bridge Club on Sunday 17th March. The pair in seventh place may be invited to take part as reserves in case someone drops out. 

 
Those who have qualified will receive an official invitation from the EBU in due course. 
OBA Swiss Teams

Summertown members Sandra Nicholson, Krys Kazmierczak, Lorna Swadling & Alastair Gidman who came 2nd in the Oxfordshire Bridge Association Swiss Teams event played on Sunday 27 January, and more particularly to John Deech who was a member of the winning team!

British Winter Sim Pairs

John & Betty who came top in the club with 61.57% and whose national score is currently 62%, although that may change as more results come in. Second within the club were Steph & Steven, closely followed by Erica & Christopher. Nationally the scores are slightly different, with Patsy & Peter second, and Steph & Steven third. Well done to all.
