Behaviour at the Bridge Table |
|
Bridge is an extremely enjoyable game.
To promote the enjoyment of the game
Club members are expected to:
- Arrive punctually for all sessions of play
- If you know you cannot arrive on time, ring the club to let the director know.
- Be courteous and friendly to your partner and opponents.
- Greet others in a friendly manner prior to the start of play on each round.
- Give credit when opponents make a good bid or play.
- Do not be rude to your partner.
- Do not gloat over good results.
- Play at a reasonable pace and leave post-mortems till after the session.
- Abide by the laws of duplicate bridge.
- Comply with any instructions issued by the director.
- If playing in a club event, make your convention card readily available to your opponents and fill it out completely.
- If asked about the meaning of a bid or signal, provide a simple and complete explanation.
- Do not object to a call for the tournament director, or dispute or argue about a director’s ruling.
- Turn off your mobile phone.
- Assist in tidying up at the end of play.
If a player at the table behaves in an unacceptable manner, call the director immediately.
You can also speak to the club’s recorder about behavioural issues that are best handled privately.
Annoying behaviour, embarrassing remarks and any other conduct which could interfere with the enjoyment of the game are specifically prohibited under the laws of duplicate bridge.
The director can assess disciplinary penalties.

CBAI Virtual Club |
Hi Folks,
I have been asked by some of our club secretaries to clarify the affiliation payment to CBAI in order to be playing online in a Virtual Club.
CBAI asked each club this year to pay an affiliation fee of €10 per member based on last year's membership number.
This affiliation fee of €10, when it is paid, means that the player, this year, is an affiliated member of CBAI and is also permitted to play online in their home club Virtual Club or in any other CBAI Virtual Club which allow outside members to play. Some clubs have a policy whereby in order to play on their Virtual Club, one that allows outside players, all players must have paid €10, whilst other Virtual Clubs will check that the outside player has paid an affiliation in their home club and then allow them to play.
What is important is where a Virtual Club allows outside players to play that the Manager makes sure that the player has paid an affiliation to the CBAI through their home club. This you will appreciate is to prevent players not affiliating to CBAI this year, however, wanting to play online in a CBAI Virtual club.
An important point to remember is that from December 1st the CBAI affiliation returns, as in previous year's, to €12.50 per member.
When paying your affiliations you can as in other year's forward your affiliations to me. The affiliation payment this year up to November 30th is €11, i.e. €10 to CBAI and €1 to the North Eastern Region. As mentioned above from 1st December the affiliation payment will be €13.50, i.e. €12.50 to CBAI and €1 to the North Eastern Region.
Kind regards,
Seamus

Re: Play re-commencement 13-September-2020
Dear Members,
The ABCD Covid sub committee met on Friday evening and went through all the CBAI and HSE Guidelines and Protocols. It was agreed that the Centre is in full compliance with these requirements and they voted unanimously in favour of a limited return to ‘Live’ play commencing Tuesday 22nd September. Kathleen Healy has been nominated as ABCD’s Covid Officer.
Some of the points that were clarified were as follows;
- There would be a limit of 50 players including the TD allowed on any given session.
- We will recommence play over a phased sequence initially run by ABCD
- Phase 1; we will play on two nights per week Tuesdays and Thursdays on a pre book basis.
- Phase 2; if numbers allow we will increase the number of nights and give priority to the clubs normally associated with that night.
- Phase 3; When clubs are confident that they have enough of their members playing the club can take over and run their club as normal.
- Phase 4 if numbers are increased by HSE we may return to ‘Normal’ Bridge.
- All guide lines and recommendations will be followed.
- With regards ventilation it was explained that there is no air-conditioning system in the centre, air conditioning systems are not preferred as they use recycled air. The Centre does have a Ventilation system which both brings fresh air into the building and also removes air to keep a circulation going. The ventilation system when turned on fully gives 6 air changes every hour in the room and therefore it has been agreed that the ventilation fans will be left turned on continuously during play.
- Players can book their game by calling or texting Cathrina Bellew on 086 8462520, giving your name and what night Tuesday or Thursday you want to book. All players will be given fair opportunity on bookings.
- A self-declaration form must be complete by each player on their first night of play. There is a link to this form on the left side column of the web site, if you can print and complete this form prior to coming this would help, forms will also be available on the night.
Some DO’s and DON’Ts
- Players don’t attend if they feel unwell, or fall into travel or quarantine restrictions.
- Please don’t congregate in groups either inside or outside the building.
- During play don’t move to next table until the TD instructs you to do so.
Do bring personal sanitizer for use between rounds
- Do bring correct Table money €6 to avoid requiring change, also bring your own pen, but minimise personal belongings
- Do wear a mask or visor, light weight visors will be available to purchase on the night at €5 each.
- Do please be seated and ready to play at no later than 07:25 for a 7:30 start.
NOTE: The bridge Centre will be open from 3:00 to 4:00 next Sunday 20th if you would like to see the changes in place. Photos below.
