St. Albans BC Teams Trophy 2020/21

Due to the unusual circumstances of COVID we will be replacing this year’s Teams Ladder with a knockout event which will mainly take place in January. Based on our current consistent turnout of 24 teams the event will need five rounds.

Round 1: 8 Teams are seeded based on recent performance and NGS.  These teams will be given a Bye in Round 1.  All other players will be grouped into 16 Teams to create 8 knockout matches.  The seeded teams will play each other as normal Monday night matches to ensure everyone gets their usual game.

Round 2: The winners of the 8 Round 1 matches will be randomly drawn with the 8 seeded Teams.  The players form the 8 loosing Teams from Round 1 will play in the first round of The Plate knockout.

Round 3: The surviving 8 Trophy Teams and 4 Plate Teams will have a random draw for matches.  All eliminated players will play in normal Monday night matches to ensure everyone gets their usual game.

Round 4 & 5: Will be conducted exactly as Round 3 to produce an overall winner.

Special rules:

Teams can have more than five players.  We have a number of squads principally Green, Weedon and Barnett that rotate from five players.  This is fine.

Where players are not part of settled squads I will place people into Teams as I would normally do on Monday.  Whilst a Team remains unbeaten I will not alter the members of that Team.

If a Team cannot field a full Team in each round then subs, within reason, will be permitted.  This is a necessarily vague rule given the relatively ad hoc nature of the event.

In the event of a tied match a 2 board playoff should take place to decide the winner.

The seeded teams are Adams, Ashman, Barnett, Cook, Kendall, Lambert, Mathews & Rogers.
