Competitions

Pre-Covid the club had quite a number of one-off Trophy events on a Monday evening.  This no longer seems appropriate given half of the club’s activities are now online on a Thursday evening and F2F numbers are lower than before.  Our main competitions are therefore now our various Ladders.  The Club has also not yet formally recognised the contribution that John Mathews made over the years.  It is proposed to bring this together into a reform of our official club competitions.  These would become:

The Monday F2F Ladder to be renamed the Gerald Everitt Memorial Ladder and replace the annual Gerald Everitt Memorial event.

The Thursday Online Ladder to be renamed the John Mathews Memorial Ladder

The other ladders would remain as they are namely:

The Individual Ladder

The Teams Ladder

The Roy Seaman Ladder – for the highest aggregate Master Points scorer not winning one of the other Trophies

The TaraStan Ladder – for the highest aggregate  X-IMPs score achieved over the year in Teams events

The remaining one-off events will be discontinued namely:

The Swiss Pairs Trophy

The Anniversary Trophy

The X-IMP Pairs Trophy

I believe this positions the Club most appropriately going forward as well as recognising John’s contribution to the Club.
