Leagues
The new league season has now kicked off, and we have a first and second division – great news. I enjoyed watching the Vickers Aherne match on BBO during the week, (there may have been a game of football on in another window.) Unlike the football it was an exciting game and having pegged back Vickers in the start of the second half, Aherne wasn’t able to maintain their momentum before Vickers pulled away.
In the second division, Gilford lead after the first round of games.
County Teams After a delayed start the first round of county games, included first, second and third teams, hence an opportunity for all, this will start with an away match to Worcestershire on the 28th Sept. Away match is probably a misnomer as with the games being played on RealBridge, there is no travelling involved. The home team do have to set up the match, though. Please let, county captain Paul Cutler know of your availability to play in these games. The second round follows hard on the heels, on 12th October.
Handicap Teams
Finally, and not especially a county event but open to all, the Newcastle Handicap Teams starts on Friday 4th October at 7pm. This will be played on the first Fridays of the month for 6 months, with a weather option of the 6th month moving to May, (April would be Good Friday, so won’t be played then) if necessary. Handicaps are determined by players (ngs) ranking. Of course, teams and their handicaps need to be registered in advance, and again this can be done through County Captain, Paul paulcutlersscba@yahoo.co.uk. A thoroughly enjoyable event, with quality biscuits to go with the complementary tea and coffee, all for the £4 table money.
Finally
I am hoping to arrange the details for January's simultaneous pairs. The previous one was a great success, and the three heat winners, also occupied the top three slots across the competition. If your club isn't participating in this, you are always welcome to play with the county BBO game on a Wednesday night. For more details on this please contact me directly.
Hopefully see you across the table sometime soon,
Tony
