Stafford Bridge Club – Rules and Guidance
  1. Stafford Bridge Club exists to provide opportunities for members and visitors to enjoy competitive bridge in a congenial and welcoming setting.   The Club is affiliated to the English Bridge Union (EBU) and operates in accordance with EBU regulations.    Further information about this is set out in the Club’s Constitution.
  2. Regular bridge sessions take place at the Club as follows:
    • Mondays and Wednesdays 1.30pm
    • Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 7.15pm
  3. Players should arrive at the Club at least 15 minutes before the start of a session, and be seated in their places at least 5 minutes before the start.
  4. Players are expected to study and to observe the guidance given in the EBU document “Best Behaviour at Bridge”.
  5. If an irregularity occurs in the bidding or play of a hand, or in the sequence of a movement, the Director should automatically be called.   
  6. Sessions will normally comprise a movement with at least 24 boards in play, each pair playing at least 21 of these boards.
  7. Permitted conventions are those up to and including EBU Level 4.
  8. Players seeking a partner for a session are encouraged to use the system available on the Club’s website, alongside any other informal arrangements.
  9. Club membership is currently held at £12.50 per person per year, due on April 1st annually.   Table money for each regular session is currently £2.50 per member (visitors £3.50).   This sum includes an element which goes to the EBU under their p2p (Pay to Play) scheme.
  10. At the Committee’s discretion, and under specific conditions, session vouchers may be awarded e.g. to pairs coming top in a particular session, including both NS and EW top pairs in a large enough Mitchell-type movement, and also the second pair in a large enough single-winner movement.
  11. Details of Club Officers, Committee Members and Roles and Responsibilities are posted on the Club notice board and on its website.
  12. Players are requested to assist Officers and Committee Members in maintaining good order in the Club premises at all times.
  13. Club members and visitors are requested to show consideration and courtesy to other users of the Showground who may be on site, and to drive at all times with due care while on the Showground premises.
