Robin's Lesson 28-04-22
Robin's Lesson 28th April 2022 with stand in note taker!

Guided play lesson 28th April based on the hands played at the club on Wednesday 20th April,  Notes taken by Ann in Terry's absense, red pen hopefully will be applied by Robin later!

Hand 1 - Stayman example

Robin gave some examples of various hands where Stayman can be used by responder with a wide point count range so long as they can cope with any of the responses  partner,  2 , 2  or 2♠  makes.  In this case getting a 2♠  response responder can invite opener to bid game with 3♠,

Hand 2 - To open clubs or spades is the question

2 long suits in opening hand (East) clubs and spades.  Robin in favour of opening the clubs in order to rebid the spades while still at the one level.  On one table in the class NS competed with diamonds actually out bidding EW and made their diamond contract,  indeed this happened on the day the cards were played.

Hand 3 - Opener's rebid

Some discussion on this one, but with 15 HCP opener strong enough to rebid 1NT.

Hand 4 - Protective seat

A hand with 2 four card suits,  Robin felt opening the diamonds would out oppo off leading diamonds,  The general rule is bid the higher of 2 touching 4 card suits anyway.

Hand 5 - the protective seat bid.

In the protective seat player may overcall 1NT with 11-14 or 10-13 HCP depending on partnership agreement.

Hand 6 - Open 2C?

This hand calls for South to make an interference bid to give EW a hard task to find the possible  6  slam.

Hand 7 - to compete

Should EW be in diamonds or NS in hearts?

Hand 8 - Straightforward 3NT contract

Oepen 1NT with 12- 14, invite game with 11 HCP and accept the invitation for game with 14 HCP, top of 12-14 range.

Hand 9, when going down gets a better score.

Very brave to overcall 2♠  on this hand but 1 down will only be -100 and NS would score 120 if they made 2NT

Hand 10 - A redouble possibility?

Scribe lost the plot here!

Hand 11
