Case fior the Defence KQxx
Example KQxx(x) Hand - What should you lead against 3 NT Contract

What should you lead as West?

a low spade

With a hand that has no obviously good lead, you should try and make the safest lead possible. However hand above has has no safe lead as such! So, we revert back to the spade suit for our opening lead. We have 13 points, and the Opposition have 25 – 27. Partner, in all probability has 0 – 2 points. Let us say that partner has 0 points. What card can Partner have to help us defeat the contract?
There is one card that he could hold (with a Yarborough, say), which might cause the contract to be defeated, and that is the 10 of spades!  If you incorrectly lead the King of spades, (and you should never lead the King, from King Queen without the 10) then you may find the following holdings in the spade suit:

  (Dummy)
♠ J 9 5
Obviously,  Declarer will be on a guess who has the 10 of spades; since you didn’t lead the King from King Queen and 10. There is a good chance that Declarer will finesse the 9. Partner will win the 10, return a spade, and Declarer will duck the 2nd spade, but win the 3rd. You will get in with Ace of diamonds, and defeat the contract by at least 1. On the play of the King at trick 1, Declarer will win 2 spade tricks, Ace, and another with the Jack, which is finessable, and make at least 1 more trick.
    (Partner)
♠ 10 3
  (Declarer)
♠ A 8 6

Lead a low spade, typically the 4th highest that is the ♠4

What should you lead against 4 Heart Contract,

West has the same hand as for the previous hand but the contract is now 4 what should you lead now as West?

King Spades against 4 Heart Contract

You would always lead the King, to set up a quick trick. The lead of a low one is very risky – might work, but could be fatal.
