Coronavirus - Club closed until further notice

In line with Government guidelines and in common with most other local clubs we regret that the club is closed until further notice.

Play Bridge Online

Hello everyone. We do hope you are keeping well. Although Selsdon Bridge Club is closed due to Covid-19, we are pleased to tell you that we have joined forces with our sister Caterham Bridge Club and moved all our bridge sessions online. Selsdon members and those from a few other local clubs are also invited to join in. These are now well underway and several duplicate pairs/teams sessions a week are being offered at a cost of £3 per session. These sessions will attract EBU master points and be graded for NGS purposes.  Click here to register to play in the pairs sessions.  Instructions on how to join a pairs session once you have registered can be found by clicking here

Please note that we have started Thursday evening sessions online on the BBO platform hosted by Tony Cherrett. Please contact Tony or Steve Irwin if you want to join in but need assistance.

Welcome to Selsdon Bridge Club

Selsdon is a friendly club based at the Methodist Church in Sanderstead. We welcome guests so please feel free to come along - Your first visit is free!

If you would like to come but haven't a partner then you can simply turn up and be guaranteed a partner via the steward system, except on competition nights, please see our calendar for details.

We play Duplicate Bridge every Thursday evening, arriving at 7:20 for a 7:30 start in Sanderstead Methodist Church, Limpsfield Rd, CR2 9EF.

The Club uses the BridgeMates real time scoring system so that the current position is constantly updated onto a computer screen.

We always use duplimated boards with a copy of the hands available at the end of the session. For the technically minded, we play to EBU Blue Book Level 5. EBU Master Points are awarded for all events.

We have a range of expertise amongst our players and we encourage a friendly and respectful approach at the table for the enjoyment of all. Our average session has an NGS of 54.5%.

You can contact us by clicking here or contact one of our committee members - for details see here.

2020 Surrey County Affiliated Clubs Teams of 8

Huge congratulations are due to the octet of Tony Cherrett, Steve Irwin, Christine Dyer, David Dawson, Robin Clarke, Nick Press, Annette Roberts and Andy Poole who turned in a magnificent performance to win the Surrey teams of eight last weekend. It was a particularly impressive victory bearing in mind very strong teams from Mayfield and Wimbledon (who fielded two international players). Our team scored 11 victories out of twelve and only lost the other one by 12-8. Click here to see the full result.

The team will now compete with other south-east counties for the honour of proceeding to the national final.

Well done and congratulations to you all.

Dimmie Flemming Award - Shirley Pritchard

We are extremely proud to announce that Shirley Pritchard has been honoured with a Dimmie Fleming award. Shirley has made a wonderful contribution to our club over many years particularly for her excellent directing which she manages to do with great knowledge, charm and diplomacy.  Aren't we lucky to have her !

A Dimmie Fleming award recognises a long and valuable contribution to county bridge.

Dimmie was secretary of the EBU from 1956 to 1975 and she played in Britain's open team winning the silver medal in 1953.

Her father was the Headmaster of a boys prep. school and it was convenient for her to be educated there where mysteriously she was called Jimmy - later transmuted to Dimmie.

Promotion to Life Master

Congratulations to Annette Roberts for achieving the landmark promotion to Life Master as published in the English Bridge Union update August 2019.
