Mercury Competition Wednesday 3rd June at 1900

This is a ‘no fear’ style pairs competition for players who have fewer than 200 masterpoints. The same hands will be played in other venues in Leicestershire, and the results will be amalgamated to establish overall winners. This is an ideal entry competition for those who are new to the club or play at Gentle duplicate sessions. You must come with a partner and let Tony (tonylochery@yahoo.co.uk) know in advance if you attend to come. Why not give it a go? The normal table fee of £3 will apply.

Our next Beginner course will start on Monday 18th May and we have two spaces remaining. If you are interested, please click on 'Beginners' above for details and then submit the form below. (Check your spam if you do not hear within 24 hours).

Training Programme 2026

We will be running three training programmes during 2026:

Beginners: January – March, and May - July

Continuation: June – August, focus on bidding

Intermediate: March – July, focus on bidding and defence (Fully booked)

Play is central to each programme, and the detail of each is set out below. If you would like to reserve a place, email Tony on tonylochery@yahoo.co.uk. Please note, you will not be able to join selected weeks on any of the courses. In fairness to everyone else, you must commit to the whole course and places are limited in all cases. Although we will operate on first come first served, priority will be given to those who have attended previous club courses.

Chicago Bridge

Wednesday Chicago session, please arrive on Wednesdays at 1315 for a 1330 start. Any queries, please contact Jill Harris on jill.harris742@gmail.com

Monday Mornings - Social learning

The Monday morning session is 'Bid and Discuss' - a comparison of bidding and play to other club members who played the same hands in a previous session. Discussion during and after bidding and play is encouraged.

Each table sets its own pace. No booking is required, the session is hosted so you can come without a partner, though partnerships are preferred. The table fee will be £3.

Gentle Duplicate

Gentle Duplicate is played on Mondays (21 boards, 1315 for 1330 start, finish around 1600), Thursdays (18 boards, 1315 for 1330 start, finish around 1600) and Wednesdays (15 boards, 1845 for 1900 start finish around 2130). In Gentle Duplicate, we generally have 4-6 tables. The sessions are not EBU accredited and are aimed at those who enjoy duplicate without the pressure of fully competitive play. The sessions are hosted, which means you can come without a partner and be guaranteed to play.

Competitive Duplicate

Competitive Duplicate is played on Tuesday evenings (1845 for 1900 start, finish around 2200) and Friday afternoons (1315 for 1330 start, finish around 1615). We generally have 4 to 6 tables at each session and play 21-24 boards. The sessions are EBU accredited and masterpoints are awarded.
