Ripley Bridge Club Christmas Lunch

Ripley Bridge Club Christmas Lunch will be held at the Village Inn, Marehay, Ripley, on 10th December, 12.30 for 1pm
It will consist of 2 courses plus coffee/ tea and mint - £28 pp, includes tip.
Choices-
Turkey, Salmon or Veggy pie
Xmas pudding, Crème Brûlée, or cheesecake

Ringwood Bridge Club Christmas Lunch

This is an invite to the Ringwood Bridge Club Christmas Lunch to be held a

Chesterfield Golf Club, Walton on Wednesday 17th December.

Tea, Coffee, Fruit Cordial and Biscuits will be available from 09.30 with play scheduled to start at 10.00. We will break for Lunch at ~13.00 with play due to end ~16.30

The entrance fee is a subsidised £28pp payable in advance by bank transfer or cash at the Clubs. People are very welcome to pay the full fee of £30 at the door on the day.

If  we have 8 tables booked by 27th November then we will finalise the booking; otherwise we will cancel the event

The menu choices are:-

Turkey Dinner with the trimmings plus mince pie and dessert
OR
Sirloin of Beef with peppercorn sauce and trimmings plus mince pie and dessert.

Choice of Dessert of Xmas Pudding or Fruit Crumble or Trifle or similar.

Members are welcome to arrange special dietary meals directly with Lee at the olf Club but the full table fee should be paid.  

The wearing of paper hats is obligatory! 

Depending upon numbers we will aim to play 30 to 35 boards,

In addition to the kudos of winning the President's Trophy, there will be the usual pitifully small  prizes for both the scratch and handicap competitions. 

Please confirm your intention to play with Lyndon or Richard and pay the fee by 27th November.

Jack Flynn Mixed Pairs

The Jack Flynn Mixed Pairs competition, held on October 13th, was won by Roger Eley & Janet Hobbs with 65%. Second were John & Kathryn Shaw with 54.09%

Andrew Parkin Handicapped Pairs

The Andrew Parkin Handicap Pairs on September 9th 2025 was, appropriately, won by Pat Parkin and Jackie McNeill.  Their score, without the handicap adjustment, was a magnificent 67.46%.  After the handicap adjustment, it was reduced to a still impressive 64.1% . Second after adjustment were Janet Goodall and Phil Upton with 63.29%.

RIPWOOD EVENT - 5 October 2025

The Main Ripwood event was won Roger Eley and Alastair McCance with a score of 67.8%. Runners up were Clive Case and Chris Challinor with a score of 61.74%.

Roger Eley & Alastair McCance , with an adjusted score of 57.44% would have won the handicapped pairs but stood down.  So the handicapped competition was won by Janet Thomson & Barbara Matthews with a score of 56.82%.  Well done to all

Treetops Hospice Presentation

Ripley Bridge Club's charity for 2024-5 was the Treetops Hospice.  The photo shows Ralph Woodstock (centre) presenting a cheque for £2,000 to staff of Treetops.

Cynthia Allsop trophy winner

The Cynthia Allsop trophy is a a new award presented in honour of Cynthia.  It is awarded to the Wednesday morning player who has improved the most from one year to the next (based on their Wednesday morning scores), The most improved player form 2023 to 2024 was Alan Bullock, being presented with the trophy by Wendy Butt (centre) and our Chairwoman, Janet Hobbs, (left).

Introduction

Ripley Bridge Club is affiliated to the English Bridge Union and the Derbyshire Contract Bridge Association. We hold 3 sessions of bridge each week, on Monday and Thursday Evenings, and Wednesday mornings.

On Monday evenings we meet at St. Joseph's Church Hall,  94, Butterley Hill,  Ripley DE5 3LW and on the Thursday evening we meet at Pentrich Village Hall, Main Road, Pentrich DE5 3RE

Play starts at 7pm.  Please try and be seated for 6:50 pm.

On Wednesday mornings, we meet at Pentrich Village Hall, Main Road, Pentrich DE5 3RE  from 9:45 to 12:30.  This is a Beginner/Improver session of supervised practice, instruction and play held under the direction of Phil Upton, MEBUTA. The session comprises a short introduction to a topic of interest, followed by duplicate on a 'Draw for Partner' basis so singles are welcome.

Club Pairs Championship November 10th and 17th

The club pairs championship will be held on the 2 Mondays the 10th & 17th November.  The 10th November is the qualifying round and the 8 top pairs will play in the final on November 17th.  If you can't play on the 17th (or don't desire to play in the final), you can still play in the qualifying round as normal.  If you don't qualify for the pairs final on the 17th you can still come and play in a normal open pairs.

Start time

For the evening sessions, please be seated for 6:50 pm. 

This allows time for assigning the host, determining the number of tables and the movement,

setting up the wirless scoring system and making announcements, so that play can commence promptly at 7 pm.
