It is with great sadness that I have to report that, after a long illness, Gwynne passed away on Thursday 25th June 2026. Gwynne was a long standing member of the Regis Bridge Club and his work in creating the software package, Bridgewebs in 2005, was invaluable in managing the heyday of our Club. He took part in all the activities of the Club and was a regular at our Bournemouth weekends. In fact, the last time many of us saw him was on the recent weekend in April 2026. He will be sorely missed by all his friends both at Regis and Toddington.
Roy Drage was a childhood friend of Gwynne and he has penned the following words about his early life
"I was proud to be a friend of Gwynne for almost 70 years. We both grew up in Malvern Worcestershire where our fathers worked for the Royal Radar Establishment. Gwynne was a year older than me, but our lives followed parallel paths. We both went to Worcester Royal Grammar school and then studied Maths at a London University – he went to Kings College and I attended University College. After a few years adrift when I worked for Rolls Royce in Derby, I returned down south to work for General Motors Ltd. where Gwynne was already working for Vauxhall Motors. Our shared love of bridge meant we now saw more of each other, and both had the mixed fortune of partnering Sam Shepherd for a while. Sam was a large lady and a local politician whose favourite bid was ‘Three No Trumps!’
After a few years, I transferred to join Vauxhall, but Gwynne now had other plans and left to set up a computer services company with another ex - Vauxhall employee. Its fair to say that things didn’t always run smoothly in this partnership. A few years later Gwynne left the company having spotted a gap in the market in a different arena. After some discussions with Colin O’Hara, chairman of Regis Bridge Club, Gwynne developed Bridgewebs, a website for bridge clubs, and this became his passion and main source of income. His life partner and bridge partner Chris Day worked with him to expand Bridgewebs to a world-wide audience, an achievement they could both be proud of.
Gwynne was a bright, gentle man who never had a bad word to say about anyone. Whether playing bridge or golf he maintained an even temperament which I, for one, could not match. I will miss him greatly as will his many friends in Bedfordshire and beyond "
Gwynne's funeral will take place on Wednesday 22 July 2026 at midday at the Oakfield Gardens Crematorium Fordfield Road, Steppingley, MK45 1AD

| Welcome to Regis Bridge Club |
"Regis Bridge Club" is the principal duplicate bridge club in Dunstable, So named from when it first opened in "Houghton Regis", a small town on the outskirts of Dunstable, Bedfordshire. The Club has invested in the ArcScorer wireless scoring system and can provide a result on the night immediately after completion of the last board played.
Although not currently affiliated to the EBU, duplicate evenings follow the rules laid down by the governing body. You can be assured of a competitive but friendly evening playing duplicate bridge.

| Regis in Bournemouth 10 to 13 April 2026 |
Over the last number of years, the Regis Bridge Club have hosted a Bridge weekend in Bournemouth usually in April. Our next event will take place at the Marsham Court Hotel on the above dates. Our weekend consists of 5 sessions of duplicate Bridge over the weekend.
The basic cost for 5 sessions of duplicate Bridge, 3 nights Bed, Breakfast and evening meal in an inland room is Ł295 per person. The hotel has been extensively refurbished over the past three years and has always provided us with a good and consistent level of service. | Champion Trophy 2025 |
The third leg of this event took place on 2nd December and the final standings can be viewed by clicking on this article. The winners by 0.5% were Melek and Roy Drage with 66.6%. Second with 66.1% were John Naylor and Ted Lowther and third with 58.3% were Colin O'Hara and Jane Redmond. Congratulations to the winners on a fine performance. The 2026 trophy will take place over 4 nights, First Tuesdays in March,June, September and December 2026

If we are forced to cancel a club night due to adverse weather conditions, we will make an announcement on this website for those with internet access.
