We have a no pressure bridge session on Tuesday afternoons, 1.30 to 3.30pm in the Dining Room at Galloways. No partner required. Open to all. £3, including hot drink and a biscuit.This is a relaxed session of bridge, with advice on bidding and play available, as well as time to consider how the hand may have been played differently.

In conjunction with the bridge playing, we plan to run some consolidation sessions on the first Tuesday of the month. The next session will take place on Tuesday 3 November and will be ‘Other opening bids’. These sessions are aimed at people who wish to clarify their bridge knowledge and will include printed sheets and some prepared boards and will cost £5 including refreshments.

No pressure bridge will continue as usual.

It is with immense sadness that I have to report the deaths of Pat Yates and Marie Upton.

Pat has suffered some ill health over the past couple of years, but she was playing bridge in the Club twice a week, as well as socially, each week with friends from the Club, certainly up until about a week ago. She had a very sharp mind and has won several bridge trophies in the Club in the past year, as well as many over previous years. She will be sadly missed as both a bridge player and as a friend. Marie was a keen player in both Penwortham Bridge Club and County Bridge Club until COVID struck and then she started playing at least twice a week online with other Club members and continued doing so after we were able to start playing face to face again. She maintained contact with the Club even when her health and logistics prevented her from playing at Galloways. Another sad loss. Marie’s funeral will take place at Our Lady Help of Christians RC Church, Hesketh Lane, Tarleton at 11am on Thursday 8 October.
