Supervised Play at The Nottingham Bridge Club

On Wednesday evenings, an enthusiastic team at Nottingham hold an ACOL-only drive where people can ask for help with their bidding and play. Players don't need to turn up with a partner, they will always get a game. But it's not just supervised play:

* For beginners who have just finished a teaching course - and not just the Nottingham course - we put on occasional teaching sessions to reinforce the basics of what they have been taught in bidding and play.

* There is a gentle intoduction to what would be expected of players at a regular drive. From leading face-down to reassuring them that it is good to call the director.

* We also have special sessions where players are taken along to regular drives, to help people progress to them. This can include partnering them with an experienced player to give them reassurance at the table.

* We have players who are returning to the game after a break, sometimes of a few decades. As well as getting to grips with the latest announcing/alerting rules, it gives them a chance to see how much the game has changed since they last played.

It's a popular evening: it's not unknown for there to be ten tables. The emphasis is on having an enjoyable social evening, while learning and gaining greater confidence.
