History of the Monday Club |
The club was founded in the late eighties by Pat Thomson. Pat lived in Caldervale Road, Clapham and the 'club' originally consisted of four or five tables in her house. Her clientele was drawn mainly from students coming out of the Monday evening bridge class at St. Francis Xaviers College in Wandsworth, where she had been a student. After her death in 1996, it moved to Balham under the management of Roger Fellows. The move to premises in Tooting took place in 2003. It became a members' club on the 1st July 2012 and has been managed by an elected committee since then. We have had to move premises several times owing to factors beyond our control, but hope to stay at the Battersea Labour Club for the foreseeable future.
