Rules of handicapped pairs competition for Jean Pringle Trophy

The competition for the Jean Pringle Trophy is run on the first available Monday of each month, from May to the following February, a total of ten sessions.

To be eligible, both members of a pair must be members of the Club, and must play together in at least five of these sessions.

Their best five scores, minus their pairs handcap (see below), are averaged, and the winner is the pair with the highest aggregate score at the end of the competition

Before the pandemic, handicaps were based on the results of past club sessions. Coming out of the pandemic, for regular partnerships in 2022-23 they were based on NGS scores. To formalise that, since 2023-24 they have been determined as follows: on 1 April each year the NGS (percentage) score for each member, as shown on the EBU website, is rounded to the nearest whole number and deducted from 50. The result gives the individual member's handicap. Those for whom no NGS score is available are given a handicap of -4. The handicap for any pair is calculated as the average of their individual handicaps.  Handicaps for the current year may be seen in the member's area.
Rules of pairs competition for Bill Carter Trophy

The competition for the Bill Carter Trophy is run on the third Monday of each month, from May to the following February, a total of nine or ten sessions (depending on Christmas closure).

To be eligible, both members of a pair must be members of the Club, and must play together at least five times during that period.

Their best five scores are averaged, and the winner is the pair with the highest aggregate score at the end of the competition.
