Wednesday 13th March

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel bridge on Wednesday 13th March.

Bridge in Central London
Bridge in Central London

The London Duplicate Bridge Club is one of the oldest bridge clubs in central London.

We play every Wednesday evening (except some in late December and early January) at the Civil Service Club, Great Scotland Yard, London SW1A 2HJ. Play starts at 7:30 p.m. The Civil Service Club is very convenient for all forms of public transport, being just yards from Trafalgar Square and Charing Cross station.

Details about the LDBC

If you want to come along one Wednesday you might like to call Nigel Bruce on 020 7622 6436 who will arrange for your name to be put on our guest list.  Or, you can just turn up on the night. At present we do not operate a rota list for partners, but partners are always available if you would like one. There are usually players in the downstairs bar from 7:00 p.m. - the door staff will point us out. Introduce yourself - we look forward to seeing you ....

New members of all standards (except absolute beginners) are welcome to our friendly sociable evenings. Knowledge of duplicate, bidding boxes, etc. is expected, but our members do vary in their levels of proficiency at the game. You do not need to be a member of the Civil Service Club to play or enjoy its facilities on a Wednesday when joining us. The Civil Service Club has an excellent bar offering a full range of drinks at very reasonable prices. There is also bar food available for those who want something to eat before the game.

Teresa Brookes (1946 - 2022)

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our brilliant Treasurer Teresa Brookes. A loyal member of London Duplicate Bridge Club for many years, she was enthusiastic, dynamic, efficient and totally committed to the club. She was also an excellent card player and her kindness and generosity at the bridge table meant she was never short of partners. She will be an extremely hard act to follow and is sorely missed by us all. Our thoughts are with her family at this very sad time. Teresa's funeral details are at https://www.dignityfunerals.co.uk/funeral-notices/29-10-2022-margaret-teresa-brookes/

Mike Wellby (1939 - 2023)

The club has learnt of the sad death of Mike Wellby last September, at the age of 83. He had a bad fall from which he never recovered. He was a long-standing member of the club, although he hadn't played regularly recently. He and Alan Bailey won the LDBC Pairs in 2016. Alan has kindly written a few words which can be read under Mike's name on the menu under 'News'. A thanksgiving service for his life will take place on Saturday 28 October at 2pm, St Mary’s Church, Wimbledon, 30 St Mary’s Road, London SW19 7BT.
