CANCELLED Dorothy Shanahan Championship Pairs 2020 ONLINE!

With apologies to the pairs who have already entered... we have had to cancel the event this year, due to the limited number of confirmed entries so far (30th Sept).  Those of you who have already paid will be contacted about refunds very shortly.

We hope to run the event - face to face - next year, and we look forward to seeing you all at the club before too long.

The annual Club Championship Pairs event held in memory of Dorothy Shanahan (1915-2007) member of the English Ladies Team and club founder, will take place on BBO at 2pm on Saturday October 17, 2020.  As it is an online event this year we will be able to accommodate more players, but numbers will still be limited so please get your entry in as soon as possible. You can register online now. Click here..

Event Format: Depending on entries we expect to play between 36 and 44 boards.  Hand records will be available with a brief commentary on each hand by our Tournament Director.  The event will start at 2.00 pm and finish by 6.30 pm, with a short break at the half-way point.

Announcement of winners and presentation of trophy:  Winners will be announced at a Zoom meeting for all competitors approximately 30 minutes after the end of play, allowing time for verification of results.  There will be a ‘virtual’ presentation of the trophy followed by discussion of the hands led by the Tournament Director.  Full results will be posted on the Club’s Bridgewebs page.

The entry fee will be £6 per player for early registrations received and paid for by 30th September and £7 after that.  Registrations will close at midday on Friday 16th.  October to allow time to finalise the movement and set up the game.

Please pay entry fees by Direct Transfer to the club bank account (London Duplicate Bridge Club, Sort code:  090150, Account number:  05918529) quoting your BBO ID as reference so that we can allocate payment against your registration.  Registration will not be confirmed until payment has been received.

Prizes: The winning pair will hold the Dorothy Shanahan silver trophy for 12 months with their names engraved.  BBO rules preclude cash prizes and only ‘modest’ prizes of BBO dollars are allowed.  Subject to BBO confirmation, prizes will be awarded as follows:  $20 each for the winning pair, $10 each for the 2nd pair, and $7 each for the 3rd pair.  A 4th prize of $5 each may be awarded subject to the number of entries.

The London Duplicate Bridge Club is one of the oldest bridge clubs in central London.

We play every Wednesday evening (except some in late December and early January) at the Civil Service Club, Great Scotland Yard, London SW1A 2HJ. Play starts at 7:30 p.m. The Civil Service Club is very convenient for all forms of public transport, being just yards from Trafalgar Square and Charing Cross station.

Details about the LDBC

If you want to come along one Wednesday you might like to call Nigel Bruce on 020 7622 6436 who will arrange for your name to be put on our guest list. Otherwise, why not just turn up and see us. At present we do not operate a rota list for partners, but partners are always available if you come alone. There are usually players in the downstairs bar from 7:00 p.m. - the door staff will point us out. Introduce yourself - we look forward to seeing you ....

We are keen to welcome new members of all standards (except absolute beginners) to our friendly sociable evenings. Knowledge of duplicate, bidding boxes, etc. is expected, but we do have some relatively inexperienced members. It is not necessary to be a member of the Civil Service Club to play or enjoy its facilities on a Wednesday when joining us. The Civil Service Club has an excellent bar offering a full range of drinks at very reasonable prices. There is also a snack-bar for those who want something to eat before the game.
